If those are the only 2 colors you'd consider, I think you should use either an off white or maybe find a nice print with those colors incorporated into them. The Saja Drapery at Crate & Barrel in Ivory or Natural is pretty, or you could go with something like the Adela which is a print that incorporates the tans & chocolates.

If it were me though, I'd actually find a print with a bit more color and life it in it. Maybe something that has the olive to tie in with the other rooms. I personally like the Simone Drape by Pottery Barn for a couple of reasons. Although the olive and cream are the predominate colors that jump out at you, there are other colors in the mix that are more subtle and would also look very pretty with what you've done so far. I think they would give the room a little needed punch of color.

I concur with Lukkiirish in that a print that combines the colors you have, like the drapery she showed, would look great in this space. You have so many solid colors already, that a casual print would add interest and color to the room.

I definitely agree that you need some pattern and another color than just brown and tan. If you get a pattern, you can use some of the colors in the drapes for pillows/accessories. Also, if you were to get chocolate drapes, they will not likely match your planned chocolate sofa.

Wow - I wish I had as much sunlight coming in to my house - I would love it! But I can see that the glare is intense. I would consider solar shades or blinds to keep the views without all the glare and heat. Then you could add drapes (stationary or operating)more for aesthetics than for function. Aesthetically, I would not choose chocolate. I'd go with a light color or a pattern - maybe white/cream/olive -- and I'm guessing you may like contemporary pattern more than traditional, so possibly an abstract geometric print or bold floral.

Good luck with your decision. By the way, the ivory is a "deep" ivory with a bit of light gold in it. I can't wait to get them up!

If you are thinking Overstock for budget, Pottery barn and crate and barrel are out--

You can get very affordable panels at JCP. They always have a free shipping code going--and if you have a store near you, you can always return them if you don't like them.

I think a pattern would be nice, but if you choose to do a solid panel, you can always add pattern with throw pillows.

If you want to keep the fireplace and window as focal points and you go ahead with the dark sofa then I suggest you pick a neutral for the drapes, the same color or just a shade darker than the wall color but not as dark as the sofa. You could do a tone on tone pattern.
If you go with the darker sofa, that will draw your eye to the center of the room. If you choose darker drapes, your eye will be drawn to the window.
The window with all the light (lucky you) looks out onto the street? You might want to consider using the same drapery panels, but install something to soften the glare without actually covering it completely. Sheers behind the panels, maybe?

You've had some good suggestions here, and the choice will be difficult. I'll throw out a different idea. You don't have your furniture yet, and you know what you want. However, the sun is bothersome. Don't make a quick decision on draperies for a room that doesn't have furniture yet. There are "many" of us who put up bedsheets with thumbtacks to cover the windows while deciding on drapery fabric. You might find that the new furniture doesn't work well with your draperies.

Thank you all for so much great feedback! You have all given me alot to think about. What I have done so far is order a panel from overstock.com to try out. They seem to be a subtle 2-toned so I ordered it in three different color combos so I have some choices.

I wish I could do something a little more custom, I found some gorgeous fabrics online that I love but I need at least 28 yards so that would cost way beyond my budget. And since I need 120" length, that seriously limits my choices of ready made. So I am really hoping these from overstock will work!

I got a little off track when looking at possibilities for curtains...but, I thought this pillow would look smashing on your future chocolate sofa with the tan walls. THIS would be my jumping off point for your room. It even has the green. I also saw some grommet top curtains at C&B that are ivory with a green border on the inside edge. Adding a print anywhere will bring the room to life and pillows are a good way to do that! Sorry, if I got a little off track, but I couldn't help myself when I saw those pillows!
