I just bought 4 SdlMs and 2 Marie van Houtte!
Comments (13)I haven't grown Marie van Houtte (although I do have two Mrs. Dudley Cross and Marie has been called "Mrs. Dudley on steroids". I have two bushes of SdlM and I absolutely adore this rose. At the moment for the first time ever in about three years one of them has a bad case of mildew but even that doesn't discourage me from loving this rose. For me it blooms practically year-round and the blooms are gorgeous and the bush is nice and full, a little more wide than tall. I'd love to see pictures of your pool area after the roses have grown for a while. What a pity that so many landscapers are completely ignorant about the old roses which are fabulous for a romantic and lush garden. And, you'll have roses that probably no one else in your neighborhood has ever seen or even heard of! Ingrid...See MoreGeneral Gallieni, Mrs. B.R. Cant and Marie VanHoutte
Comments (8)I no longer have General Gallieni (a bit too bright for my color scheme) but have the other two and think they are two of the finest tea roses. Both of mine are young and one is in too much shade (doing better now since part of a tree toppled over in the rain), but I have something to look forward to that will get better with every year. Comments (11)Thanks Ingrid! IâÂÂve been pretty sure it wasnâÂÂt MvH, but wanted to wait out its fall blooms to see if I might be wrong. If you donâÂÂt think it looks like Maman Cochet, then I might have two mislabeled rosesâ¦my MvH & MC (each from a different source) look very much alike. They are beautiful roses, but I had planned for a rose with some yellow tones where MvH is planted...best laid plans, right As for Bowser, we found him in our pasture back in July of 2011. He was down to only skin & bones and completely covered with massive sized ticks. He may have been abandoned, but he could have been displaced from the tornadoes that left so much damage surrounding us late April of that year. We were unable to find his true owners, so heâÂÂs still living with us. HeâÂÂs put on around 30 lbs since we found him and is probably the best dog everâ¦but donâÂÂt tell my other pups I said that :)...See MorePlease tell me my Marie Van Houtte is okay?!
Comments (4)What I've seen in my garden is that teas can withstand some canker. As long as half a cane (girth wise) is alive, I think you'll get good growth later this year. Maybe not in the coming five to ten years, but by that time, replacements will have established themselves. (which led me to wonder over a decade ago why hybrid teas didn't inherit that part of teas' genes.)...See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
