General Gallieni, Mrs. B.R. Cant and Marie VanHoutte

I haven't posted on this forum in a long time, but I had to put in a good word - and one picture - of three old roses.

I used to grow a lot of old roses in my garden, but my interests changed to planting for butterflies, both host and nectar plants. There were three old tea roses that were too good to throw out - General Gallieni, Mrs. B.R. Cant, and Marie VanHoutte. I've had these three for about 12 years, and they continue to bloom and thrive. All I do is put some chicken manure around them in early spring, water them if we have a dry spell in summer, and prune them every couple of years. These have got to be the BEST roses for the Gulf South. I ordered a 'Maggie' to plant soon, because I love the smell of the blooms, but I won't be surprised if she gets BS and doesn't thrive.

Here's a picture of the General - I love the dark color of the flowers in cool weather -
