Tiling Window Sill...help please! What do I do with window trim?
Comments (5)My sink and window set-up are very similar to yours, right down to the window moulding abutting the sides of the cabinets. the only difference is that our sill is much deeper. We have a tall faucet as well. If you're thinking that you need to tile the sill because it will get wet, I can tell you that our sill does not get wet. Don't know why, but it just doesn't. If you want to, you could trim or remove the part of the old sill that sticks out horizontally and use a different piece of painted wood trim applied on its side. By this I mean so its front is flush with the front edge of the moulding on the side of the windows. This is what we did. We have a piece of moulding about 2 inches high and maybe 5/8 inches thick. The side window moulding runs into it. So it's like a frame to the window, but a different profile from the side moulding. It looks like it belongs there. We needed a flat moulding to have room for our faucet. We tiled up to the bottom of the cabinets, and the tile runs into (and stops at) the moulding on the sides and bottom of the window. It looks nice. Sorry I haven't learned how to post pics....See MoreWhat do I look for in a silky smooth sheet set?
Comments (8)Cotton sheets come in a couple of different weaves, percale and sateen. Percale is a standard plain weave. Sateen is woven a little differently, something like 4 over 1 under. This gives a shinier, smoother surface than percale. Another factor is the length of the cotton strands themselves. Short strands will tend to stick up a bit on the ends, and bunch up, leading to a rougher surface and possibly pilling. Extra long staple is what you want to look for - the longer strands give a smoother, slicker surface. Typically ELS cotton will come from Egypt or if American will be pima/supima cotton. Non-ELS cotton is the cursed plague by which sheets feel and look fantastically smooth and rich in the store, but feel like rough crappy sandpaper after the first wash. When looking at thread counts you also want to make sure that higher thread counts are actual single-ply. You may also want to look for mercerized cotton, which can be softer and smoother. If you do manage to find a high threadcount sheet (>600tc) which remains smooth, slick, shiny, and soft after washing, let me know. I have a couple of 800tc and 1000tc sets like that but subsequent sets of the same were terrible. That quality has become a unicorn I've been chasing for a few years....See Morewhat do I do with this awkward space?! PLEASE help!
Comments (20)I can’t tell you how much this feedback is helping! I’ll have to wait to give those exact dimensions as we are not in the house just yet. We close May 11th and have to be out of our current home June 4th. We are trying to complete this entire renovation in that short amount of time! Rip out walls, take out all the carpet upstairs, put hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining room, living room, stairwell, and hallway, paint, build island and pantry. We are kinda crazy. We also have a 2 year old and 8 month old. This will hopefully be something we laugh about someday! We just feel so fortunate to have some overlap with our houses to be able to renovate while living in our current home. No furniture...just a clean slate!...See MoreWhat do I do Please I need help right now
