Good sheet set, stand up to laundering...
Comments (28)Mama always said to look for high thread counts, but I'm finding that often high thread counts means poor quality and sheets that are soft...but too limp and thin to last more than a couple of years. The best sheets I ever bought were 200-count 100% percale, purchased about 35-40 years ago. I am still using most of them, although they're on the guest beds now since they're the Full size. Some really good ones I purchased 2 years ago at a department store (on sale, but would pay full price if I had to!) - they're queen size, but the top sheet is king size. I really like the bigger top sheet - I'm less likely to be left cold when hubby turns over and takes the sheet with him! Naturally the sheets are discontinued....See MoreWhat do you do with piano sheet music in the living room? and pianos?
Comments (23)Renee, I look for old sheet music to frame! Found a song with the name of our street in the title, and I picked up some seasonal/holiday music that I change out during the year. So fun! Fori, As for the music "library", I bought an old sheet music cabinet from a neighbor. The condition isn't great, but a word of caution: I think they are intended to hold SHEET music, not books. The shallow drawer bottoms are not solid but slatted, and don't feel super strong. It's cool, but not as easy to use unless you are very organized and know what you keep where. I also have a small metal Bisley 5-drawer unit (from the scratch-and-dent corner at a The Container Store, it's missing the bottom drawer, which leaves an open slot for music) Each drawer has one of those little slots that hold a label, so the jazz goes in one, the video game music printouts in another, etc. and we can find them, and put things away easily. The books are in two large "boxes" beside the piano: one is a sturdy basket, the other used to be a deep kitchen drawer. One sits on the floor under a small table, the basket sits on too of the table, which is just the right size to hold them. The music stands upright and it's easy to flip through. The whole set-up is not that attractive lol! My friend and here husband are both musicians, and they installed cabinetry in the living room for the music. Shelves close together to hold loose paper flat, and shelves spaced for books and binders, as well drawers for metronomes, pens and pencils, instrument tools, etc. The shelves are also attractively labeled to suit their needs; I think it's a removable/movable label. Our piano came after we'd lived here for a couple of years, it is in a corner but it is a great spot! In this living room, only a buffet or console type piece of furniture would work, because it's where you enter the LR from the foyer, so our console piano is perfect....See MorePlease help with sheets. What do I look for?
Comments (16)First of all, I just found this forum. I may become a regular here in the Laundry Room, if you don’t mind! I agree with the above about percale sheets. I’ve found nice ones before at TJMaxx. Also, a note about thread count. One year, my husband and I had really terrible sheets that needed to go in the trash, but we had many other expenses that I felt were more pressing. For Christmas, he went to Macy’s, and bought the highest thread count sheets he could find—like 1200 or something! He thought he was getting “the best.” I was touched by the thought, but hated them!! They were hot, and noisy—the slightest movement was highly audible! I laundered them over and over, trying to “break them down.” Finally, after 8-9 months, I had to admit they were terrible, and he was actually relieved. He hated them too! :)...See MoreNeed inexpensive flat sheets - not sheet sets
Comments (25)Olychick, thanks for that video. I’ll send it along to DSS. Wonder why she didn’t secure the corner ties? I’ve always done something similar without the rolling. I lay out the cover, lay the comforter on top, tie the corner ties, grasp it by the upper corners, and flip the cover outside in. Fun2BHere, I don’t know if those dorm rooms are typical through out the country, but they are pretty typical in the SEC. Now, my really big problem is when I ordered the duvet, I had it sent directly to DSS, but I used the wrong house number! The Company Store isn’t open today for phone calls. I’ve sent an email and I’ve sent a Twitter DM. If I can’t get it resolved through them, I guess I’ll need to get in touch with UPS and have it re-routed. I’m so mad at myself!...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
