Have you checked Pier 1 for duvet covers? As for flat sheets, I buy a lot of my bedding on eBay. I stick to brands I know and make sure the item is located in the United States.

You could buy a larger sized sheet set and then cut the elastic out of the fitted sheet and put them both together to sew your own duvet cover. That way you'd get pillowcases too. Check Macy's for their supima cotton no iron sheets. They come in a lot of colors.

I was just going to .suggest the same as Fun2B.. pier1 has a number of duvet covers under $50 and then an additional discount. I would also look at clearance on TheCompanyStore site.

Sure, you can make one from flat sheets too-- but I'd check discounted pre-made duvet covers first.

Also, if you have a PB Outlet nearby (and your stores are open), I have picked up a number of very inexpensive west elm duvet covers from them.

Pier 1 is going out of business...not sure when though.

How about buying two sets of sheets - you can make a duvet cover out of the flat sheets, then use the fitted sheets on the mattress!

Never thought to check Pier 1! I don’t think I realized they carried bedding. .... Well, bummer. Just checked Pier 1. They had 2 duvets that were an excellent price - much less than sheets - and had touch of poly and were masculine looking. Totally unavailable in the size I need.

Found this one at The Company Store and they will stack promo codes! It is 100% slubbed cotton percale. Do you think the slubbing will help hide wrinkles? What do you think of the pattern? Sufficiently masculine?

When you buy duvet covers, be sure to double check the size vs the size of your comforter. Some companies (and I think The Company Store might be one of them) have their own sizes that may not be compatible with other brands. And I have Ikea duvet covers and even in cotton, they really odn't need ironing.

I like the Company Store one . Bed, Bath and Beyond also sells flat sheets and of course duvet covers too.

You might search eBay for Company Store duvet covers. I got a great bargain on one from a company that handled Company Store returns.

I have found Macy’s the most difficult online merchant I’ve ever dealt with. In early January, I ordered 5 sets of sheets for DD for her new house. My sister loves Macy’s sheets and they were on sale. I’m a pretty savvy online shopper, but I could not get the Macy’s website to take my order, so I called and placed my order. When I received the order, 4 of the 5 sets were wrong and, of course, the sheets were no longer on sale. So I called and asked that they send me the correct sheets at the sale price. After a couple of hours of moving up the chain of command, they finally agreed to sell me the sheets at the original sale price. And then they sent 1 set. I figured the order was simply being sent in multiple packages. Nope. No more came. I tried to call Macy’s, I tried to DM on Twitter, and I think I tried chat on the website. No luck with any of them. Finally, I turned to Amex and disputed the charge. That was my first, and last, dealing with Macy’s.

I’ve looked at The Company Store on eBay. And I’ve looked at Ikea. When DSS responds about color, if the one I posted above works, I think I’ll get it.

Annie, when DD went to college, I used a Collier Campbell sheet set and made her duvet cover. It wasn’t a size too large. It was exactly the size of the bed, so I had to use some ingenuity to make it work. I don’t remember now exactly how I did it, but on the fitted sheet, I trimmed away the elastic and the corner seams. I used the flat sheet as one side. I made the duvet cover the same as an envelope pillow sham, somehow using the side pieces. I used decorative buttons to close the envelope. I also took the pillowcases apart and made the dust skirt.

Now all of the girls are using decorators to style their dorm rooms.

Bbstx, I’ve never bought duvet covers from Company Store, but my down comforter is from The Company Store. It lasted 20 years and numerous washings. I just replaced it last summer with a new one and I love it. Their customer service was excellent - I had to call before I ordered because I wasnt sure which one I wanted (cool, warm, warmer, etc) and the customer service rep was extremely helpful. I hope you are pleased with the duvet.

I have many Company store duvet covers, but they are all in their velvet flannel. I love them - they are great quality and hold up very well. I like that they have ties in the corners to secure the duvet, too.

I guess your color scheme choice is going to work for him, lol!

Send him the youtube video about the burrito roll stuffing of the comforter into the cover. It might entice him to wash it once in a while if he knows he doesn't have to struggle to put it back together. Not sure why she didn't tie the corners. I don't have ties on the comforters but I just tie the corners into the duvet cover's ties.

@bbstx, Holy glamour, Batman! I've never seen a dorm room that looks like one of those. Usually, you are burdened with awful particle board, faux wood grain furniture and concrete block walls.

Olychick, thanks for that video. I’ll send it along to DSS. Wonder why she didn’t secure the corner ties? I’ve always done something similar without the rolling. I lay out the cover, lay the comforter on top, tie the corner ties, grasp it by the upper corners, and flip the cover outside in.

Now, my really big problem is when I ordered the duvet, I had it sent directly to DSS, but I used the wrong house number! The Company Store isn’t open today for phone calls. I’ve sent an email and I’ve sent a Twitter DM. If I can’t get it resolved through them, I guess I’ll need to get in touch with UPS and have it re-routed. I’m so mad at myself!

Oh, no...I hope you are able to get it redirected. Alternatively, maybe your son can leave a note at the incorrect address and tell them he is expecting a package and his contact info.

My neighbor across the street gets one Christmas present every year that is sent to my address. Unfortunately, we have our mail held throughout the holidays as we are usually out-of-state. So, when we return and pick up our mail, we take the package over to the neighbor. I don't know why they can't just tell the sender their correct address. I mean, this has been going on for four years now. Of course, I still get personal Christmas cards from people addressed to the former owners and we've owned the house for 15 years.

The Company Store is FANTASTIC! I called early this morning, explained that I had messed up and used the wrong house number on my order. The Customer Service Rep said she would see what she could do to fix it. About an hour later, I got an email confirming shipment with the correct address on it. Then about 5 minutes after that I got a call from the CSR assuring me that the problem had been caught and corrected. I thanked her profusely and DM’d the company through Twitter to tell them what a great job she had done!

the wrinkled linen / casually made bed look is in. just get cotton or linen from ikea and embrace it. cotton / linen is so much more cool and breathable. even if it does get left in the dryer, teh wrinkles should relax after a couple of days of use. some ikea linens are not as soft at first, but they do soften after a few washes and I find that the fabric is surprisingly sturdy for the price.

I presume this is your son's apartment, not your house? if so, let him figure out his own housekeeping. either he becomes a tidy "wrinkle free" linen kind of guy, or he is a little messy. but it's his place, his domain. (if he still lives at your home then that's a different story, lol.)

Thanks for reporting back on the Company Store's customer service. I've been buying from them for over 30 years - 3 homes, college dorms, my kid's new homes and only have good things to say about them. Home Depot bought them a few years ago and I wondered if they would change how they operate.

This is not his first apartment. His housekeeping is abysmal, but his job allows him enough financial freedom to at least hire someone to keep it marginally clean. The duvet cover from The Company Store is 100% cotton percale. It is being sent to him. Once he gets it, it is his to do with as he pleases.
