Help! I Need a Light!
A couple of weeks ago, after buying a new dining room table, my husband and I did some major home rearranging. We put the dining room table in the old living room and moved all the living room furniture into the old dining space, which is open to our kitchen. We created this cool little loungey area that really reflects the way we use our kitchen as an area to entertain - and we love it.
It's still a work in progress - we're planning to get a new cocktail table and a small armchair to complete the arrangement. But first, we really, really need a new light. When we moved the old dining room furniture out, I smacked the old chandelier with my head (it wasn't that fun), bending it beyond repair. Apparently I have a hard head.
As a result, now we've got a big hole where a pendant should be and we really need a little more light in the space. We're having trouble, though, finding the perfect light. The one we thought we wanted from IKEA isn't available online or on the East Coast (annoying) and everything else we've seen is just too expensive or too boring.
So, Houzz folks - please help me! We're looking for something within the following parameters:
- Cool and probably a little on the modern side
- Under $500 (preferably well under)
- Medium in size
- Will hang down a foot or two, but not much more than that
This ideabook starts out with photos of my house, then includes a bunch of lights I've looked at for inspiration. Any advice will be much appreciated!

This is the "lounge" - see that spot on the ceiling? That's where the light used to live.
This table lamp is the main light in the space. It's made of thin strips of bamboo (and from IKEA). It also has a pendant version, but unfortunately, that has a very kitcheny vibe, and we're looking for something a little more "living room."
This is my kitchen - the lounge area is off to the right of this photo. Just to give you some perspective.
I like the way this lamp seems to glow from within.
I love this delicate, interesting construction.
This is a close-up of the chandelier above - I think it's so cool.
This chandelier reminds me of a darker, more solid version of the one above, and I like it for the same reasons.
These two IKEA pendants are too big (and a little too casual) for our space, but I like them nonetheless.
I don't really want to mess around with candles (even ones that aren't real), but I do like this fixture's spiral construction and the warm quality of light it puts off.
This one hangs too low, but I think it's cool - I like the shape and the way it would distribute light.
