What can we do with this awkward space?
Comments (32)I got it! I got it! Inspired by the fabulous view and wanting something restful in the DR, put in a waterfall wall!!! It would be gorgeous. You can get them in glass, acrylic, copper, steel, colors, all kinds of things. And you can set them up to be just the upper part of the wall with a buffet or credenza in front. You can get them to be rain, bubbles or water fall.... And how cool is that, fire and water.... Here is a link that might be useful: Custom water fall walls...See Moreawkward corner media space - what to do here?
Comments (46)I think a built-in or a console is fine. I think a console would likely be less expensive. Really, a built-in is going to be just the shape of a console. That is all you can fit. As far as option 2, Yes, you would have an issue with the sofa the way I am showing or with flipping the sofa with the chairs. Design is not always perfection and involves compromises. I suggest you might have to spend $ on something going forward -Is that a bathroom? If so, the door must swing out. If not, can you change the swing? -How a bout a new sofa that is more compact.? The width of the room is a matter of math. You have 155". 155-89=66. With the current sofa, that gives you a total of 66" for door swing for both doors. What is the total of door swing for both doors total?...See MoreWhat can I do with this awkward space?
Comments (13)I can not help but notice there is no overhang there or at your kitchen peninsula. That's got to be uncomfortable sitting there. I do not know how involved you want to get into this, but there's a lot of potential to fix this unfuntional area. Another idea: Turn the 2 door into a 1 door. Build out a closet with a door opening into the other room not viewable in photos. Then possibly use the existing countertop on the other cabinets to put on the backside of the peninsula to finally get some overhang to sit at. You may even be able to use the cabinets on backside of peninsula too, but leave enough room for les 12" min..15-18" better at table level. Here's a rought sketch to hopefully help explain... Again, The floor under cabinets being removed will need work on the transition. Hope that helps give you some ideas :)...See MoreSpace in home I’m not sure what to do with ? Please help
Comments (12)I almost bought a house with those sorts of room. The owner had carpeted them and nicely painted them so they weren't dark scary places -- I would have loved to put a small sofa in there and curl up with a book on a rainy day or just to hide and take a nap. There was a recent home listing I saw where the owner made bookshelves along the two long walls and had a lovely full library -- quite cozy and a perfect reading space. Use your imagination and have fun with it!...See MoreGwen
