PreOrder new Bosch 500 series or something else

last month

I am interested in getting 24" compact w/d.

Looking into preordering this Bosch model that will ship out in a few months according to Yale appliance.

Bosch 500 series washer WGB24600UC & dryer WQB245BOUC.

also looking at Miele however I would have to go to the more expensive models to get the same features as the Bosch. Also interested in the LG all in one combo.

Features I am looking for 1600 rpms, steam on both w/d, heating element washer, speed wash, 4D wash and intensive cleaning, touch screen is a plus. I not interested on the auto dosing and lassume the 220V on Bosch would be better?

Yale appliance ranks the bosch as very reliable. Wondering if there sre any thoughts as going for Miele or LG over these new Bosch.

Its going to be hard to recommend as this is a new model and unknown in the USA. i doubt it will be bad. Discounting features you have not used maybe should be rethought. TwinDOS from Miele is very nice. Many who thought it was a gimmick have grown to really like it. Bosch offers models in Europe with a similar auto dispensing option.

I dont think you will find many prople who dislike Miele. They do cost more, but at this price point its not THAT much more.

LG may be fine, they just are not in the same top tier bracket as Miele and Bosch.

Spin speed is not what should be used to compare water extraction capability. G-Force is what should be used. As a drum gets bigger the required spin speed for the same G-Force goes down.

Electrical requirments mean little. Check the cycle times/actual max power draw. It may be the washers onboard heater elements are similar capacity. Most Bosch and Siemens units are designed to have the washer plug into a wall outlet and the dryer plugs into the washer. Hence the 220V rating.

Miele is 120V, but separate curcuits for both applainces. In my home both the washer and heat pump dryer are run on a single 20amp circuit. This has worked fine for almost five years.

Would also add, one great feature that's not often highlighted on the 860 Miele models is the extra pump. It provides the "Single Wash" feature, which the manual states is actually a load under 2.2lbs and it also gives you the Quickintense cycle for up to 11lb loads. If you perform a lot of small wash loads or are looking for a great clean in under 1hr, it does a great job. For example, sanitizing a small load of rags in under a hour is great to have. I declined to get the next model up with the touchscreen given parts for that screen can cost more in the future and I actually prefer having the knob/dial. However, I didn't want to give up the quick cycle options on the 860 since they work so well for me compared to other washers I've used. Good luck with your purchase!

After 2+ years of ownership now I will say I would easily buy this machine again... That said I have had 2 service calls... the first time the pump stopped... it was replaced and it's run great ever since...until I washed a rubber backed bath rug and the backing fell apart into crumbs and plugged the line... service cleaned that out for me and it's been great ever since... now that second time was entirely my fault... I knew the backing was old and delicate... but I was trying to push one last wash and a month or so out of the rug... dumb move... Personally the only 'guts' I've gotten near is to open the round 'access' on the bottom front which allows you to open the clean out prior to the pump... when I've checked there (other than with the rug incident) there is never anything of consequence... and it's solely been an 'execrise' in how to do it... That said... be aware that a small item (kids socks, small panties, etc) will occassionally end up in the gasket by the door, and then you have to decide if you're going to hold onto it for another load, or give it a good squeeze out and toss it into the dryer... I have found if I put this type of item in the washer first when loading the problem does not occur as often... maybe once per month or two... not great, but not a deal breaker in my mind. From comments some have posted here is seems that some bosch models do not have a spin option on the dial any longer, so I'd watch for that as IF you end up unbalanced you can get a 'soggy' load at the end and then you just need to re-spin the load after rearranging it... again, not frequent maybe I've done this 3-4 times in 2+ years??? but if you don't have the option to select only a spin, you'd have to rewash needlessly. If you don't currently have a fl machine, be aware, cycles are longer... I find my typical normal regular wash time is about 1 hour per load, unless I select the 'quick' wash of ~25 minutes. good luck with whatever you end up with.

hmmm....very interesting thread. I have knocking problems that have just started with my new 7 1/2 week old Bosch 500 Nexxt also. But I'm not to sure if it was caused by a uneducated repair guy or what. I had vibration problems, when I first got it and waited 5 1/2 weeks for the ding dong repair guy to order the right amount of legs (I guess he can't count) when he put them on he used a 5" block of wood to tilt the the machine back then forward to install the new legs. I should mention that the repair guy called Bosch tech who told him to order & install the new feet that that should solve the problem. After he left the vibrations seemed worse and the knocking started. The knocking noise happens when it's ramping up and braking to slow down. Also seemed to me it was having more troubles than usual balancing before spinning. So, I called Bosch asked them if these issues could have happened from the repair guy titling the machine without re-installing the shipping bolts. Bosch said, yes it could be possible and suggested I called a different repair shop. So, I call another repair shop, this guy knows what he's doing finally, he discovers that one of the struts is worn out, bad and needs replaced. The machine is only 6 weeks old!!!!! I wait another 1 1/2 weeks for the new struts he put them on yesterday and it is still knocking, the struts didn't fix the problem. The repair guy says that he isn't to sure what it would be but it is definetly not normal. He did call Bosch later and Bosch told him that the knocking is probably due to the rubber feet, which Bosch originally said would take care of the vibration problems. I have a hard time believing it is because of the feet, I called Lowes told them the whole story, they ordered me a new machine which will be delivered next week. I have had this machine for 7 1/2 weeks it has never operated properly. It does concern me that the struts went out within 6 weeks, there are only 2 of us so I don't do much laundry so there is no way I could have worn those out that soon. I haven't given up hope yet, before the struts going out and the knocking noise, even if I was having vibrations issues, I really do like the machine. I'm just hoping that it is a "lemon" and the new machine will be fine. Oh, I forgot to mention that the first repair guy noticed when he was putting on the new feet that the back legs weren't tighten down by the Lowes delivery guys. Maybe that was the cause of the vibration problem to begin with. Wonder if vibration could do enough damage shaking to make the struts go out and the knocking since a few of us have experienced the same problems? I don't want to make it sound like Bosch is bad, there are many many people on this forum that are very happy Bosch owners, thats why I choose Bosch in the first place. I'm still hoping that I can be a happy Bosch owner also. Maybe the new 500 had a few kinks in them that didn't get worked out?

OK, I think it's safe to say that the Bosch dryers are a wee bit overly sensitive to air flow. This is clearly estlablished. Here's a few tip's for EO1 sufferer's. I think the use of flex duct is out of the question to use with these dryers. The straight runs of the flex hose will collect as much lint as a 90 deg. bend smooth sided rigid duct, especially if the flex duct is not fully stretched out. Any flex duct that is not stretched out fully will trap lint like crazy. If you have excess duct, do not leave it bunched up. Stretch it out fully and cut off the excess if you must use it. Smooth sided rigid ducting will reduce lint build up but annual cleaning of any duct on a well used dryer is essential to proper dryer operation and maximum efficiency. Another option that will help people with EO1 syndrome (if feasable), is the use of oversized ducting. You can get adaptors that will allow the use of 5 or even 6 inch ducting that will help increase air flow in long runs of ducting. I don't know if the sensor is operated on temperature or air flow, but it appears that these dryers do not tolerate any air flow obstruction. Another thing to be looked at is proper installation of the duct work. Heat naturally rises and any duct work that flows downward will cause back pressure, just as if it were partially clogged. Any down flowing sections should be removed and rerouted to at least be level, but ultimately flowing upward. Any bends in the duct should be kept to a minimum. If you can get away with a 45 rather than a 90 deg. bend, do it. If possible, make the duct work flow upward all the way to the house vent and keep bends to a minimum. Make sure your outside vent has something on it to prevent critters from entering the duct work, especially if it's near ground level. Don't use a screen on the outside vent unless it has at least 3/4 inch square sized holes and clean it often too. Use foil tape to seal seams and it's a good idea to leave a seam untaped every 6 or 8 feet so that you can easily take the ducts apart for cleaning every year. Anyone who has had to remove that foil tape on a joint will know why I say to leave it off. It's not easy to remove! I found a vent duct brush with a 6 foot wire handle for $6 at a hardware store. A must have to clean the ducts. My wife has one of those ball shaped cob web broom things on an extendable handle. They work great for cleaning ducts too. If you're not into taking the ducts apart,you can buy these plastic things that are advertised as "heating vents" that go in line with your duct work so that you can open the vent and use the heat from your dryer to heat your basement or wherever. They fit in line with the duct work and they have a little lever on them to open and close the vent. If you don't mind 100% humidity in your basement they're fine, but they also allow you access to the vent for cleaning which is what I use them for . They're cheap and are easy to install. The only problem is that you can only clean in one direction when it's open so you'll have to put one every 8 or 10 feet if you have a long run. Just something to consider if you don't want to take the ducts apart for cleaning every year. Hope this helps. Happy duct cleaning!!

Oh I did so love living in NY.... Thank you very much for your reply, and I will talk with my local fabricator. I'm a little concerned about the longevity of the fix and noise/vibration if done incorrectly or without enough knowledge of the machine. It is irritating to look at the stacking sets and know how simple it must be.

So far, every review about his latest line I have seen on YouTube is positive. Especially the adaptive programming is praised (even though there is no silly AI branding slapped on the cycle dial). We have both the Bosch and the Siemens versions in the store (I'm in Germany) and the flat Bosch panel is very sleek and responsive. Bosch's Single Item option is called Mini Load. As far as Miele versus Bosch goes: I'd personally go for the Bosch. Nothing wrong with Miele, but I no longer see their price as justified. Especially now that their global efficiency program will shut down production of washers in Germany by 2027. Obviously US pricing is a little different, seeing that the Bosch above is sold at 1,500 USD while I'd pay 850 Euros for it.

I am also looking at the top of the line Asko washer (style) paired with a lower line dryer (classic or Logic ). The main draw being I can buy them new at a heavy discount. Saving about a $1000 from the Bosch set. Another Pro I wouldn’t have to wait until June. The asko does not hook up to wifi or an app (which I don’t think I would use) and has a larger capacity at 2.8 and 5. Any experience with this brand?

Have you seen the new 800 series Bosch. I can also preorder that although it’s much more expensive and has a longer wait time. The only difference I see if the autodosing and the color but maybe there are other differences. The dryer doesn’t seem to have any differences, except color and price. With the different colors cant pair a 800 series with the 500 series.

We have the 800 Series pair in our store. The built quality is essentially the same as with the previous generation.

As you've said, there seems to be no difference between the dryers. The 800 washer has the iDos automatic dispenser as well as an Automatic cycle that senses the turbidity of the water and adjusts the cycle accordingly. The sensor is usually also used during the rinses, so the washer will add rinses, if it thinks it's necessary. This should work in most cycles. Not an essential feature, as you should be able to add up to three rinses in the app. Price difference on Abt is currently $150 between the washers.

This channel has the washer with iDos. The owner shows the cycles and the app in detail, as well as a cycle with Mini Load. This is the Siemens version, which is identical to the Bosch except that is has a dial instead of the touchpad. It's also in that silver-ish color. Please also read the description underneath each of the six videos, where he gives his opinion. There are more videos out there but so far I've only seen German ones and a Russian technician.
