Help! What Color Should I Paint My Front Door?
We come to the rescue of three Houzzers, offering color palette options for the front door, trim and siding
It's a common design question for anyone wishing to update a home exterior: What color to paint the front door? I found three homeowners in Houzz Discussions with that dilemma and have a few suggestions for possible paint colors that would work well on their homes. Take a look below — if you ever find yourself in a similar jam, these real-life homes may help you find a solution.

Option 1, red: A fresh take on the classic red front door is to go warmer with a red-orange hue or cooler with a red that has a bit of blue in it. This rich, cooler cranberry color would look great against the red-orange brick. The neutral taupe would be a nice accent color on the wood porch railing.
Door: Cranberry Cocktail 2083-20; trim: Taos Taupe 2111-40 (both from Benjamin Moore).

Option 2, green: Green can make the door really stand out against the brick siding. Green and red are opposite hues on the color wheel, so they offer maximum contrast to each other.
Door: Coastal Plain SW6192; trim: Artichoke SW6179 (both from Sherwin-Williams).

2. Garage and Front Doors With a Dark Brown Exterior
Denise1234 just had her house reroofed and the siding painted a dark taupe-brown. Now she's looking for color suggestions for her garage and front door to create a contemporary look for her home's exterior.

Option 1, orange: A bright burst of orange at the front door is a terrific way to draw attention to the entry. I'd keep the garage door a more neutral hue, such as this lighter taupe color.

Option 2, aqua: A light watery blue would also be a nice contrast to the dark siding color. Turquoise has been a trendy house accent color of late, but I think it's a new classic that would work well on this home.

3. Shutters and Front Door With a Light Tan Exterior
AS Brown is not afraid of color and wants to paint her front door and shutters for a new look. She prefers something other than red, as many homes in her neighborhood already sport that color.

Option 1, teal: With such a light siding color I'd go with a bold color for the front door, but something deep and on the darker side so it stands out. This deep teal for the front door and lighter cool green for the shutters would look great.

Option 2, mauve: A moody mauve could be an interesting alternative to red. Paired with a deeper purplish wine for the shutters, it would make an unexpected exterior palette that would certainly set the house apart from its neighbors.

Option 3, olive green: Here's a third option that takes a more neutral approach. The green for the front door has some brown in it, which helps tone it down. The shutter color is a dark gray-green that also reads as a neutral. I find this palette very elegant and a great way to inject color in a subtler way.
