I really like offbeat love stories about strange, quirky people and families, so Lars and Real Girl was right up my alley. I don't mind if it's somewhat depressing or doesn't always have a happy ending. Same reason I also loved Punch-Drunk Love with Adam Sandler. What I don't like about run of the mill romantic comedies or love stories is that everyone's too perfect, the story is too predictable, always a happy ending. It feels fake to me. Besides I feel like they are always the same movie remade a thousand different times, with whichever actor and actress are the "it" people of the day in Hollywood. Give me movies and stories about the weirdos any day. Different strokes for different folks.

Not only did we stay until after the credits, we came back and saw it again for the next showing! LoL Can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

I love that movie. I watch it every time it comes on. I saw it in the theater with my mom. I think I ran into a girlfriend and her mother leaving the theater. We all four cried during the getting ready scene. Just kills me to listen to slipping through my fingers. I love it so much and it makes me so melancholy, and so proud... all at one time. That song is hard to feel.

I just re-watched TiMER, which is set in a future in which you can get an implant that will count down until the moment when you meet the one person you are meant to be with. But it only works if your "one" also has a timer. Oona is about to turn 30 and is getting increasingly desperate because her timer hasn't started counting down yet. Her sister is floundering because her timer did go off--but she won't meet her "one" for another 13 years. The technology is more fantasy than science, but it makes for an interesting backdrop to look at people's reactions to knowing/not knowing/wanting to know/not wanting to know.
