Mamma Mia!(2008)

Just saw this and recorded it. Loved it before and also saw it on Broadway. Can you tell I'm a big ABBA fan?

OK, now I actually had a girl's night out & saw the movie last night. The total theater, except for two very uncomfortable looking men, was populated by women of a certain age. The movie was filmed in what used to be advertised as "brilliant Technicolor" and the location couldn't be more appealing. I'm sure it will boost tourist revenues in Greece. The so-called plot is flimsy as it can be & at times seems just to be a prop for the intro of another song, and please Pierce Brosnan, keep your day job & DO NOT ever sing again! However, much like the movie audience the film is really carried by the trio of women - Meryl Streep, the seemingly ageless Christine Baranski (sp?)(well, until you look at her neck) and Julie Walters - who are clearly having the time of their lives romping to the old ABBA tunes that were popular in their salad days. So you forget about the silly plot, the fact that the timeline doesn't mesh with reality (hello! the 1970's were were 30+ years ago, not twenty) or the fact that if Meryl Streep had a twenty-year old daughter she was the oldest living hippie at 40, or the fact that if she was really cavorting with Colin Firth in her twenties she'd be arrested for child molestation. It's a summer, laugh out loud, movie that has you leaving the theater humming those d*mn ABBA tunes that won't leave your head with a smile on your face. And don't leave the theater too soon. Stay in your seat for the roll-up so you don't miss the two last musical numbers which are the best.

Thanks! Yes, I'm prone to bold colors this year after such a drab display I had last year. I love how this particular color looks en masse. So I either have to spend $$ and fill it out or wait for it to spread. I'm tempted to buy a couple more. @rouge21, I'm not sure why I thought that. I remember reading about someone else here who was sceptical and asked the question, but I've read in some places that it's hardy to zone 4. My tag says zone 5. Regardless I think I will be ok, although I lost my beloved Harvest Moon - it never came back this year. Here it is, it was a small plant that never really grew as big as the pink ones but it stood out so gracefully from everything around it. RIP, Harvest Moon.

Mine came from Northern Grown Perennials and it is big division of fully grown plant. After I potted it up is took full space of one gallon container. All their plants were nice divisions with good root system. My Abigua Drinking Gourd was 2 eyed division with wonderfully developed leaves showing all those cups and crinkling.

Believe it or not HUBBY wants to go see it. Not something I would go see but I guess I am going. He's a Swede and VERY opinionated. As far as he is concerned EVERYTHING that is Swedish (ABBA) is the best! LOL Sure I liked their music when they were popular but decades later he's still playing their "best of" CD ....... Most of the songs sound like desperate women to me!

Watched it for the third time. I love the music and the gorgeous scenery and thought the actors were pretty good singers. A feel good movie.

just finished watching it. I hadn't seen it before but it was really fun to watch.

While I loved this movie and the scenery (oh my!) I really wish they had not asked Pierce Brosnan to sing. LOL

We really enjoyed that movie too! What a lot of fun. Wish we could have seen the Broadway version! I bet that was wonderful.

I love that movie. I watch it every time it comes on. I saw it in the theater with my mom. I think I ran into a girlfriend and her mother leaving the theater. We all four cried during the getting ready scene. Just kills me to listen to slipping through my fingers. I love it so much and it makes me so melancholy, and so proud... all at one time. That song is hard to feel.

When we saw it on Broadway, at the end the audience stood up and sang Momma Mia and Dancing Queen clapping and dancing. The cast took a bunch of curtain calls encouraging us. I should say my daughter and I stood up with other women in the audience. The men sat and observed, Wouldn't be manly to sing and dance, doncha know?...lol
