The movie is based on truth. I find it interesting to learn how a young man built himself a billion dollar fortune by doing something that no one else had done. He was a college kid, so yes, immature and self absorbed. Nevertheless, I did find it interesting.

I have heard mixed reviews. Some say it is a great movie, some say it's boring. I would like to see it. I wish they would re run it before the Academy Awards. I know it's out in DVD and Direct TV is showing it right now, but I'd prefer to see it in the theater.

I didn't care for the movie...sorry it is only my opinion. But as for Mark Zuckerberg...he is a genius...and I like him very much. It is the other characters in his life that I found self absorbed and greedy....

He was also a thief, stealing someone else's idea and that's what landed him in court (and made for a big-deal Hollywood movie). He was boorish and egotistical and it seemed like he derived pleasure from hurting other people's feelings (such as his girlfriend).

He seemed to be something bordering on amoral, and as one of the lead female characters said to him, "I don't think you're an a$$****, but why do you try so hard to act like one?"

I didn't like the movie either.

"shallow flick"? .... I thought it was fantastically fast-paced and an incredibly smart look into this worldwide phenomenon. The brains in these kids' heads were almost scary .... I'm sure they could have taught their professors. As far as the 'stolen idea', the twins were paid a handsome sum. If anybody thinks they could have done what MZ did with the idea ...... yeah, right.

My friend saw it and described it as "riveting." I'm surprised to hear that cricket and some others found it boring. But, as they say, different strokes for different folks.

I loved the movie, and it would be my second choice for an Oscar and I've seen them all.

I haven't seen it but plan to. I think that people need to realize that film makers tend to add,delete and edit for dramatic effect. Here in Silicon Valley he who runs with the idea wins. Those that pause to think about it lose. I think it was sour grapes on the Winky Brothers part.

I half-watched it on the plane out to Honolulu. I didn't find it at all fascinating. My opinion matchhes the OP's.

I think that age can be a factor. There are only just so many themes for stories. By the time you are a Senior you've seen countless 'takes' on every theme. I require better writing and acting than this movie had to become invested in what should have been an interesting real-life story. Too much adolescent angst. Maybe the real-life circumstances were too thin to spin into a 'tale'.

A movie doesn't have to be 'artsy'. We just dragged ourselves through highly acclaimed, excruciatingly vapid film by Francis Ford Coppola: "Tetro". The plot had great possibilities, but they came to no good end (or beginning, or middle).

I kind of liked it probably because I'm just interested in the real life story. I kept finding myself wondering just how close any of the movie actually was to the real situation though. It did seem like kind of a shallow movie but it may be that the story just doesn't get much deeper than that. I think if you're a tech nerd you don't necessarily have a lot of variety in your life to fill a movie script. I'm glad I watched it though. DH was skeptical at first but he liked it in the end too.
