Can I claim wet basement or leaky on house insurance?

Anna Cunningham

Hello everybody! This fall we asked our contractor to put French drain around the house. We knew that the old one was broken when since 2 years ago when we were replacing sewage tank.

There has been a lot of moisture in the basement before putting new French drain, but no water. The floor is cement and not finished.

The spring after the snow melted, there was water running from the one corner of the house, the sunny side corner actually on the floor. The same happened after strong rains. The basement smells like an old damp lake, and it is not closed off from the upstairs - the main area of the house.

Plus the roof, not a old roof, still very good roff, leaked.

Do insurances cover water and mold resulting from the water damage on the floor?

Than you!
