Basement framing around wall- support column

I have a cinder block basement with columns on the side walls. The guys I hired don’t want to frame around the columns on the side wall. They want to frame a straight line and leave the column part without a sill plate with only the sheetrock covering the column. My concern is that the sheetrock will be almost in touch with the column or I’ll lose a lot of space if I do a straight wall 4.5 inches offset the column.

Is it OK for the sheetrock to almost touch the column with no insulation behind. The picture shows a PT lumber approximately where they plan to drive in the sill plate. Pls ignore the red chalk line.

Few ways of doing this if you want the column sticking out you can wrap around it, or you run the wall straight how is usually done as they propose, if you want a plate ask them to take 2-1/2x16" from the bottom plate, most guys do that, other than that this is how its done all the time.

That is how it is always done in these parts. If the wall is above grade, it is framed. Concrete requires different insulation, harder to work with, more expensive etc. Now ours was 2x6 to support the 2 stories above - the rest of the house was 2x4. We have a front wall - all concrete, side walls stepped down toward the back with the concrete, and then a small corner of the back wall had concrete - never did figure out exactly why.

You need a structural engineer. Posts need footings. You’ll need to dig footings. Steel is stronger than glue lam, and smaller. It will not need intermediate support if designed correctly. Steel is always the answer. Along with a work crew that has experience with it. NOT DIYable. Structural work is like racing. How much you want it to be invisible depends on how much money you have. How fast do you want to go? Pony it up. A 300K level remodel is going to bleed it at every opportunity. This is where you need the experienced architect and GC and let them do their jobs.

Get cultured stone post wraps and make sure you have means for moisture to escape. If you looking to do real cultural stone it will involve prep work and it will be more expensive.
