Walkout basement back wall framed

Our build will have a walk out basement which the builder said will be framed vs concrete. From what I have been reading people say this is no big deal. Does anyone have any experience with this type of construction?

That is how it is always done in these parts. If the wall is above grade, it is framed. Concrete requires different insulation, harder to work with, more expensive etc. Now ours was 2x6 to support the 2 stories above - the rest of the house was 2x4.

We have a front wall - all concrete, side walls stepped down toward the back with the concrete, and then a small corner of the back wall had concrete - never did figure out exactly why.

We've owned two houses with walk-out basements. The way David Cary describes it is exactly how ours were built.

R 23.8 is the minimum basement wall insulation value for the Energy Star 2012 Standard in either of Saskatchewan's very cold climate zones. The cheapest retrofit interior way to reach that minimum while avoiding condensation in the basement wall would be two-inches of XPS against the interior of the foundation wall, (R-12) followed by fibrous insulation between wood or light steel framing with no vapour barrier. Building scientists Joe Lstiburek and John Straube, among others, recommend this system. (Variations that either eat up more interior living space or cost more in most cases, use ccspf, expanded polystyrene boards (EPS) or polyisocyanurate boards.) The key detail area is the space around the rim, which, ideally, should be sprayed with closed cell spray polyurethane or fitted tightly with foam board, sealed and caulked. Siding on basement walk-out wall

We read a little more of the contract, and discovered that the builder is planning that the walkout end of the basement is framed, rather than poured...hence the need for some kind of siding... So...in the words of Emily Litella, "Never mind."

Regarding that walk from the bottom of steps to pool ... what happened? It looks like it crashed and died at the bottom landing. The width should continue ... especially because it's not a very long walk. In front of blank wall I'd do a large flowering shrub. For zone 5 you might consider a Viburnum 'Carlesii' or Judd Viburnum (delicious scent when blooming.)

Dry wall over the block wall, I assume you mean and yes. Or paneling is what our home had when built back in the 70's. It's no different than finishing out any basement wall, the walk out does not matter.

That is how it is done in Michigan. If it is in a colder climate they will also have to have a frost footer. Here it is 42" below grade and also has to extend 5 feet on either side of the walkout. Also when they pour the basement slab they have to put down foam around the walkout perimeter.
