Messaging each other through Houzz

I could be wrong, but it seems to me that back in the days before Houzz people were more available to be messaged through Garden Web. In other words, members enabled that feature.

I just did a random check of KTers, and out of 10, 1 had messaging enabled. I'm not looking to message anyone, but occasionally it is nice to be in touch on a more personal level.

Anyway, if you want to enable messaging through Houzz:

Click on "Your Houzz" in upper rt. corner

Edit profile

Advanced settings

At the bottom of the page: "Who can message me" setting

After making the change, click UPDATE button

Unfortunately, when you look at your own page, you cannot see if messaging is available or not. I guess that's because most people don't want to message themselves. Maybe ask someone else if you have the message button on your page. I hope I do! I think I do!

Sheila, Glad your mom is doing well on her own. My folks were great until May 17,2010 when dad had the stroke, he had just finished cutting down 2 large fruit trees that were messing up the sewer pipes. He had dug down as deep as 6 ft over most of back yard removing all of the roots. He had cut up all of the wood also with his chain saw, not a couch potato. They enjoy eating & sleep well & only pain killer is 1 baby aspirin a day for each of them to help thin blood so I want to keep them home. New lady is grandma & is good at PT so mom likes that she does her leg better than physical therapist the agency sent. Agency is no longer advertizing & hasn't returned some money that they owed mom. I had tried checking them out but couldn't find anything. Glad they have some checks where you live. The women that had last names I did check out, last 1 I couldn't & that was red flag. I'm not 2 doors down but couple blocks away!! Works out well! Thanks for the nice comments everybody! Jan

I have read about using old windows to build a greenhouse but have never seen one. I'm so excited to see yours!!! I have been collecting old windows and patio doors through freecycle and have been taking them out of their aluminum frames and reframing them with wood. I figure when I have enough then I will do the layout for where each window will fit the best. How did you do the structure frame? And what did you use for the roof? I would also love to see more pictures of how you made it. Looks fantastic!!!

Beng12, I've been getting the same advisory more often than not since the last Houzz site "update." Win7 and Firefox. I have all the forum topics that I routinely view bookmarked in a folder, which provides a clickable function "Open All in Tabs" at the bottom of the folder. All the topics open in separate tabs, then I navigate through them in turn to open threads of interest. I found that right-clicking on any tab *after* they've all initially loaded and selecting "Reload All Tabs" refreshes them without the error.

Thank you, mama! I knew you sent me a message because I started the thread and got an email with your comment. But how else would one know if they got a houzz message? I don't check my profile every day!

Socks, it should come into your email. Mine all do, then I go to my profile to reply. Set up your messages to come to your inbox.

You'll get a Message from Houzz on the subject line of your email, with the message in the body like a normal email.

I have mine enabled and have had conversations with people on GW forums. I get an email notice and it is also in my profile area under messages.

As others mentioned, my personal email account reminds me if I get a new Houzz message. I don't check my Houzz messages very often (don't check email as often as I should either), but I'm trying to remember to check them.

Thanks for this info. I was wanting to email someone on here just recently and couldn't figure how to do it. I now have mine set to allow messages. If I find I don't like it, I can always change it back.
