Does Your Home Have a Hidden Message?
If you have ever left or found a message during a construction project, we want to see it!
Ever feel like your house is trying to tell you something? Like really tell you something? You might not be crazy after all. Two of the homeowners below left messages hidden behind materials during a renovation project. And two others found similar messages. Consider it a message in a bottle for terra firma. And we’d love to see more.
Homeowners: Have you left a hidden message for a future homeowner to find? Or have you found one in your own home? If so, share your story and, if available, photos!

During a complete kitchen renovation, workers pried up an old marble baking slab to find a message that reads: “What are you doing here?” with a cartoon of a bearded, bespectacled person, “which made us laugh,” says user kpelk, who believes it to be from the previous owner and renovator, a “jack-of-all-trades eccentric.”

This family found a creative way to let future homeowners know who was there first. From user dianne: “When we built a second home with our daughter and her husband, the four of us traced an outline of our bodies on the subflooring with colored chalk. We then sprayed with clear acrylic and covered with the wood flooring. The subcontractors thought this was hilarious, but somewhere down the line someone will uncover this ‘art.’”
And this user had some fun with a found drawing. “We pulled off the 1940s-era wallpaper and found a pencil-drawn face (Picasso style, abstract) on the original plaster,” says sazgrrl. “We painted around it and put up a frame for our art!”

Another part reads: “(But don’t blame me for the furred cut. That was the last guy!)”
Maxam then invited future homeowners to email him “in the internet” and, in case it wasn’t obvious, added the word treasure with an arrow pointing to the goodies.
