Not sure if it is just my screen colors but I dont care for either, sorry. They are too similar in color to your chairs. I think some contrast would be nice. Without seeing the rest of the room, I cant give you a color but based on what I see the the photo above, I would pick something from your fireplace colors.

I think you can do a lot better. You need something with more interest and contrasting color. What other colors do you have in the room? Also maybe something larger? The way that is set up, I don't believe it will be comfortable for someone's feet. Can you post a picture of the whole room?

I prefer #2. Seems a bit more unique than #1.

I'm a little confused, as you mention a Craftsman room. Of the two you show, I'd pick # 2. But perhaps one with a bit of an Arts & Crafts vibe? I don't know what other colors you have, but here's one possibility I have from Pottery Barn, called Cecil.

I know you worked hard to choose these 2, but I have to agree with the others that you can do better. Something with more contrast. I think Gramarows is heading in the right direction, although that rug is very dark. Between the fireplace, the trim and your chairs, you have a lot of heavy and dark elements in the room already.

llukkirsh, as I said I am simply trying small rugs before getting the proper size. Easier to return!

Thanks all for your comments. Does anyone have any suggestions since these two don't seem to work? I've seen the PB Cecil rug and find it quite dark--not to my liking. I do need to lighten the heavy Craftsman feel of the room.

Can I just add that the samples I posted above are just to sort of give you an idea of how the added color would offer some contrast to the brown chairs and wood floors. We recently bought this rug and I think the lighter nature of the colors may be a welcome addition to your space too...the colors are more subtle but still enough to bring something to the room. It's also lighter in person. We have a brown sectional and oak floors, it helped a lot to ground the space.

Agree -- the colors of your chairs, hearth and wood floor should be minor colors in the rug, not the predominant color(s). The lack of contrast and interest will be worse with a larger rug and the chairs actually sitting on the rug. Choose another color to bring into the room - something from an adjoining room may be a good one to pick, and then look for that color in the rug.

Looking at PB rugs, the Adeline Multi (green and ivory), the Gideon, Eva, Brandon, Malika, Leslie all look like they could work with your chairs. See if you see colors and a look that you like in one of those or if they at least give you an idea of what to look for. Between those and the ones lukkiirish has posted, you should be able to see what we are talking about. You could also take the photos you posted to Macy's, PB and anywhere else you are rug shoppiong and see what they might have that they would suggest.

Agree, the "lust" rug is beautiful. A little different but not in a weird way, soft colors but enough contrast. Go for it!

Had to go look at the "lust" rug. I don't think it's any bolder than the sample rugs you brought home -- just has some added colors, and given what you already have, I think that's a good thing.

Cassandra, the rug you are lusting after is really eye catching and different (in a good way). If that rug makes your heart sing, I think you should go for it, use it as your foundation piece and build the room up around it.
