I have a purple sofa also and I like yours better than mine. The chair is great whether you leave it as is or re-cover it black. I can't believe the deals you got. Woo Hoo!

And the chairs! Wow! How can you resist them? Although ... are they comfortable? And would you reupholster them?

I'm amazed at how both the sofa and chair coordinate with your rug. You might have been looking for red or black, but you found the perfect furniture for your rug.

With that rug, I can't see you going anywhere but contemporary and the new furniture echos that decor so your head may be saying Tuscany traditional, but your heart is pulling contemporary.

Hey! Those are the exact chairs! LOVE THEM! Show me more of your room and how they fit in!! Do you think $250 is a fair price for them?

Those chairs are currently residing upstairs in my kids gameroom. There's more furniture in there than there should be, I'm just holding on to it in hopes one of them moves out and takes some with.

As far as price, I think $250 for the pair is a really good price. I really had to hunt mine down to find them at around $375 each. Most stores at the time were selling them for around $500 each.
This style is fairly hard to find. When I was considering selling mine, the only thing I could find comparable was all custom made to order and very expensive.

Wow, I love the couch and chair. I can't believe how they match to your area rug.

Love the couch, and the chair with it was a great bonus. I would NOT buy the other chairs - they will take away from the 'specialness' of the couch.

I am not sold on the couch straddling the window like that - I think you lose the lines of the back against the change in walls. Maybe if you pulled it to the right just a bit, once the tree is gone, so that the deepest part of the curve isn't competing with the corner angle?

I would try turning the rug so that it is more parallel to the angle of the couch. The curves in the rug are working against the placement of the furniture.

I really think the chaise would be better angled out from the corner where the couch is now, in front of that window, and let the couch move down the wall flat against it to appreciate the curves of the back. The matching chair could then sit to the right of the couch.

I think the room will come together wonderfully!

JUST for the holiday season -- flip the room around a bit -- move the Christmas tree infront of the front windows. Then move the seating area more into the center of the room -- with the smaller tub chair near the piano -- and the chaise facing into the seating area (and towards the front window and the Christmas tree)

And perhaps consider painting the coffee table to black? Add black-painted round tables at each end of the sofa with black lamps .....

teacats - the table is unfinished at the moment. I wanted my husband to paint the legs black but he is resisting. (it COULDN't be from all that hard work he put into getting the original finish off?). The jury is still out as to what color it will end up. But yeah.. I'm thinking the legs black at least! I don't think the top willwork black as I did my own art on the top of woodburning.

Please keep in mind that one of the issues I am dealing with are the high sides to the sofa the give a real closed off feeling if the sofa is too tilted towards the room. And back to my question about sofa against the wall.... ?? I thought this was a "no no"?

I like the basic arrangement you have, but feel it needs a little "breathing room" Can you pull everything, including the area rug, out from the corner about a foot and then play with it and tweak the angles? Not loving the pine coffee table with the retro stuff...sorry. You need a sleek retro table as well.

I agree with les917. The chairs, while interesting, would be a few too many 'wings.' I LOVE the color/texture of the sofa! It will be interesting to see the progress on this space.

Thanks for all yoiur comments! I tried the tree in various places tonight and it ended up back on the wall. And while I understand what youa re saying about "breathing room", if everything is so far apart it doesn't lend itself to conversation. Ok so for now the Christmas tree is the "star of the show". I will be keeping my eye out for the right lighting ( yes even chandalier that doesn't scream "put a table under me!"), and window treatments.... that is still in the "hmmmm I wonder where to go ..." stage.

Les... I tried angling the area rug but it didn't seem right when it fell into the walking path?

But that's me... I decorate by feel... wrong or right.. that's just how it happens with me.

I promise to keep you all updated.. be it this thread or start a new one (I'm always up for new ideas and this is really fun getting input and going with it).

So I just had a thought that maybe the "breathing room" thing is because it looks so cluttered with all the pattern on the area rug? It really doesn't feel that busy in real life but when I look at these pictures.. whew!

Also keep in mind I will probably end up upholstering the round chair black ( which is VERY comfy btw).

Oh and the story on the table..... it was such a labor of love. I am going to paint or stain it darker and see if it works... if not.. well .... ebay? I'm just not quite ready to part with it. =)

Okay, I suppose I am being difficult here, but what if you were to put the cool couch against the wall where the piano is now? I think the arched wall would be a wonderful way to make the couch the star of the room. Then the rug would run parallel to the couch, long side where the couch is.

Then put a pair of chairs at right angles to that, facing on another, with the coffeetable in the middle. Could be the one chair you plan on re-covering in black, plus another chair. Or, if you are set on the conversation chairs, they could be used on either side of the couch instead.

Move the piano to the wall where the couch started out, but not all the way into the corner.

Put the chaise down by the front window, angled toward the piano.

A table and lamp by the chaise, palm tree in the front corner to the left of the piano, art over the piano, more art over the couch. Christmas tree on the wall to the right of the piano for now - perhaps a bookcase or wine bar there when the holiday is over.
