Bathroom vanity area questions.

So I'm in the process of a DIY remodel for my main bathroom and I have some questions on the vanity area. The vanity is a 60 inch cabinet, single sink, with walls on either side that frame in the area.

Because one side wall has plumbing, and the other has duct work, we could not put the outlets anywhere else but on the back vanity wall with the mirror going above it.

I decided on 2 outlets (sideways, a foot in from each end of the vanity) and was sort of thinking about having the frame of the big mirror cover the outlets with a way to move the frame up or down to access the outlets (like a hinge on part of the frame). Or maybe it doesn't matter if the outlets show?

I also originally wanted lights on either side of the mirror but if I cover the outlets there won't be enough room and the lights will have to go above the mirror. Will that look weird if I already added recessed lights on the ceiling (on a separate switch) if you need more light in the vanity area?

The recessed lights and light above the mirror would end up being about 2 feet apart.

I am not sure it matters if the outlets show, but it is your space so if it matters to you, that is the issue.

How high up does the backsplash on your sink top go? Could you just run it up higher or tile above it and around the outlets>

Or, could you drop the mirror down so that the outlets are in the mirror itself? They can cut out the mirror space to accommodate them, and then get mirrored outlet covers. Something like this:

Not sure it would be so easy to put on a hinged cover without the mechanics of it showing.

You have a lot of options. You can install a narrower framed mirror above the sink area, then install lights on each side. Outlets can go either above or within the backsplash.

Another option is to do a large mirror with the outlets on top, along with your lights.
My previous MB had a large mirror above a 6' vanity. Both lights and outlets were on top of the mirror.

Another design would be to add a small cabinet on one, or each, end and put your outlets there....

As for hiding the outlets with a moveable mirror, I think it would not make for easy access to the outlets. Especially if you're going to use them for charging toothbrushs, shavers, and running hair dryers.

Hello! I'm really tight for space with my vanity - the vanity is 32" wide (33" with counter) and will be centered in an area between a wall and the toilet - area is approx 39" wide at it's widest. How can I put a mirror above the vanity and allow for side lights? Some of the side lights that I have found are only 5" wide and I can do a mirror that is 22-24" wide... Will this work? Thanks everyone - I'm going crazy trying to figure this out...

I think it will look fine either way....if it is lower, you have a dedicated/defined area as your makeup vanity. If it is the same height, that space may or may not be used as a vanity and will just become part of the overall sink area. Only you can decide which will work better for you. A counter-height stool COULD look a little strange in your bathroom and is not the norm, but if you like it that's all that matters.

Not a big deal. Pull the new vanity forward (it looks like you have about 8" of room to the casing) and run the plumbing behind it. Bonus, it gives you an extra deep counter. You could then put a shelf 6 or 8 inches up, running the full length of the vanity if you like.
