SoCoME you have been so kind, thank you very much for all the help! I know it's probably annoying with so many noobs coming around asking for advice so I appreciate the patience. I would agree if I end up with the antique brass that I'd probably swap out the hardware but I'm very interested to learn more about rubbing it with stain - I had no idea! I guess art nouveau is pretty broad - maybe deco? I really like the modern, clean lines, not the swirly stuff although it is gorgeous. I love the edison bulbs and industrial look but worry that might not be the most flattering light in a bathroom - I seriously considered several fixtures of that ilk and came to the conclusion that a frosted white or milky cream glass would be best for makeup application etc. I'm a sucker for the chrome and speedy angular lines of that era - I'm a huge Frank Lloyd Wright nerd! I think it's so easy to mesh the 20s deco styles with the 50s mod look. The rest of our house is mid-century modern so it would be cool to give a nod in that direction with the fixtures. I think they'll either make or break this bathroom. Here are a few examples of lights that I like (obviously won't work in our bathroom). These may be way more ornate than this bathroom will handle, but maybe there's another name for what I'm looking for?

Thanks for posting these pics for me. Get some samples of the faucet finish that will help a lot. I have a wall mounted faucet and planned it to be accessible from the back if ever it was needed. The accessible area is inside a closet in the room on the other side of the sink. I had a new cabinet made for my soapstone sink and tall backsplash. My faucet rough-in is installed through the wall and the thick backsplash. I actually could disassemble the faucet and sink from the front too, and lift the vanity away from the wall if I needed to. I have a large access hole behind the backsplash. But to change out the rough-in I think going through the wall, behind would be preferable, because there is more room to cut a hole to access plumbing. Note that the faucet comes out of the backsplash and drips straight into the sink. There is no counter below the faucets and spout. I mention this because, most pictures I see with a wall mounted faucet have a counter below the handles. I love the way mine is set up because all wet droppings from the hands wind up in the sink and not onto the counter. This sink is a breeze to use and clean. It is 18" square outside and around 10" deep outside. This is my guest bathroom/mudroom/ on our working farm. On occasion I might be mixing calf milk replacer in the sink, or washing a dog in the bathtub. The sink can be used to wash fairly large items too. It was a real treat to plan all of this and see it come alive. You will have so much fun with your beautiful dresser.

Omg mdln, I love love love that. Love. I don't think the designers looked outside too much as what they thought would be a 5 ft vanity would actually be a 4 ft vanity due to the jut out. I'll have to take a look outside and some measurements. Thank you for this pic! bevelyfla- we currently walk through the br to get to the closet, it's all good here. As robo said of her area, it's typical for this area as well. Thanks for the other layout idea. crl-I agree with having the shower a bit further away as to not wake up the other one. rockybird- we have to tape it out to see exactly how we will be able to move in the space. I don't want it to be tight considering it is such a large area. Thanks palimpsest! Great tweaking!

lol, rebunky! I never thought about running the tile over the edge of the counter like that. Definitely worth considering, thanks! Did I say on this thread or the one in the bathroom forum that I figured out that the tile will only be about 8 1/2" high. My elevation made it look much fatter than it will be. In fact, it's likely closer to what you did above. I met with my GC yesterday and my KD today. They were both very productive meetings so I'm feeling a whole lot better about this project. GC said, "yep, we can do the angled bench, no problem" which put the Kohler shower pan in the running. Yay! He also had great cost-saving ideas. Yay, yay! When I met with my KD today, I reviewed everything with her, especially my concerns about a tiled shower floor. She said, "do the Kohler and the angled bench" without missing a beat and we headed off to a local showroom to look at color chips. Found a winner in no time: Sandbar is perfect! It's a wonderful color with my other choices but there's enough contrast that it's a great compliment, too. I'm a happy girl! DH and I liked A and B the best of the tile patterns for the shower. GC said his favorite was B and that it would be a cheaper install. KD voted for B as well. So B it is! On the bathroom forum thread, mayflowers voiced concern that the mosaic tile reads too brown in my photos. My sample doesn't look brown but I stopped at a local showroom and asked about it. Oh, yeah, there's a lot of variation and I could get a batch that has a lot more brown than blue. Not good. I want blues not browns and especially not a golden brown since that would look awful with our other choices. So I stopped at a tile distributor to see what else I could find. I brought home 4 choices, 2 of which were discarded when I got them home in my light. One was neon bright in my light. Oops, not what I was going for. The other was wishy washy. But I have 2 very good choices to replace the glass mosaic. I may need to swap out Aquarius glazed option for another in that line for the 1/4 round but that's not a big deal. Choice #1 is Lunada Bay, Tozen series, in Iodine, in 2 finishes. Here it is in silk (non-glossy). And in natural (glossy) Tile choice #2 is also Lunada Bay but in the Agate series in Pisa, silk finish. These will also have some variation between batches but they won't end up brown. Not sure which I like better.
