My kitchen addition is 12x12 square. The peninsula overhang where people will sit is in the "old" section with 8 foot ceilings. I have two Hudson Valley Pendants with diffusers on the bottom, so it isn't harsh light. My electrician had me stand there while he measured just above my eye level, so when seated, the lights are also out of my line-of-sight. Here are my pendants Haverhill in polished nickel. My kitchen is still under construction, so this isn't a great photo, but you can see how they look from an 8' ceiling. The new section has 9' ceilings. There are recessed cans in each corner, in front of the fridge, over the window. The overhead light is the Hudson Valley Waterloo semi-flush. The kitchen is very bright in all task areas -- and all the lights are on dimmers.

Of course some of my lights created a problem in our case, but it's not what I'm trying to say.. The suggestion was made that there is a variety of boxes available. No, in our case, no variety was available to us. It was one size box, and the remodel is ongoing and recent. I also know that the code tends to change pretty frequently (I won't bore you with another story about our gas meter, but the gas company installed new meter-and then the even newer one)) And it happened pretty fast..)) So what do I know, maybe 2 years ago whoever remodeled/installed a new box had the said variety. Or had the variety we didn't but also didn't have to pass an electrical inspection. Again, if you gather people on Earth and ask them about electrical anything -I really don't want you to notice me in the crowd)) Just sharing the story of how I decided to go for the overhead light in my guest bathroom (I could get different sconces, right? Bigger plates and all. Even if the plate is 4,5-and you have a wall from one side..and you have to be a few inches away from the very corner, right? So to those several inches, add 9 inches when you calculate spacing, instead of ten. Wouldn't look good anyway. Not in my space. The electricians didn't try to accommodate my specific sconces. They also didn't know which sconces I had in mind. They are electricians..they were asked to put boxes on the sides. And then they did. And then I saw it. And then I looked at it more..and more..and more..)))

Well, we settled on mounting the center of the fixture (the round part that mounts to the wall over the electrical box) at 63", which then puts the very top of the fixture at 70" and the center of the light source at around 67". I sure hope I made the right decision. The contractor/designer's suggestion was 5" taller than the 63". That just seemed too high for me. The electrician has set the electrical boxes and the piping for the wiring, but I'm still second guessing myself. Yikes!!!

Thinking about it again, it might make more sense to have the linear drain at the blue line (against the long wall), because if we had it at the red line, that would mean I'd have a step down crossing the threshold (drain location would be the lowest point in the shower), defeating the purpose of doing a single-sloping shower...
