Would you consider doing benches on either side? I could see simple black stained or painted, with a rim of nailheads to pick up on the end chairs. Or, a more substantive upholstered ottoman-style bench, perhaps in a suede-or leather-look. No backs, of course.

Ikea has a bunch of inexpensive options that have Wegner influences. I love the ghost chairs as well. We have the clear Tobias chairs from Ikea in our kids playroom, which was the best I could do to come close to the ghost chairs without breaking the bank. Good luck!

I LOVE your chairs and table. What is going to be in the rest of the space? There are sooo many different ways you could go. I love the idea of using benches keeping the focus on whats already there.

I think ghost chairs would be fabulous with your elegant wings - great fabric choice!
Benches are sleek and architectural and horribly uncomfortable for more than five minutes unless you have a ballerina's posture and an iron back.

Until you can afford the real thing, these might work (although I know nothing about this company), and they are $271 for two, with free shipping.

I like the clear version of this chair, but I couldn't find a North American source. They just used something similar on Color Splash Miami, but they don't list any sources on their program page which is a major pet peeve of mine!

I found a lot with the shape, but they all had four legs which I'm not crazy about in your clean, minimalist space.

What you have so far is wonderful! I like the idea of the ghost chairs, expecially those with rounded backs and/or arms because they relate more to the wing chairs that you already have. Once you acquire the chairs, we would love to see them in place.

Wow!!! When can I move in??? I think you and I are "soul sisters"! Fabulous space, fabulous chairs. As you know, I'm trying to find the "perfect" chairs as well. I'm just not sure about the ghost chairs with those end chairs. I can't put my finger on it, but maybe it's just "too much"? I think with those end chairs, a more subtle chair might be better. Something with straighter lines that maybe would contrast more with the end chairs. Maybe a stainless, metal type chair to pick up the grey in the cowhide. I LOVE these Emeco chairs, but they are pricey!!

I've always been more of a traditional person, but I'm really fascinated by your style. I thought that was a magazine picture when I first looked at it. I'd also like to know your paint color and can you tell me about the floors. What kind are they and are they two different colors? It's amazing that you've created such a gorgeous room with only four items. I'd love to see the rest of your house some time :)

I love what you've done so far. I'd keep the chairs very low and simple. Midcentury mod is perect. I like the Ghost chairs, but in a weird way, I feel they would compete with the wild edge and cowhide. They're clear, but still fussy. I agree bench is a great idea or some teak root stump stools (I'll post pics later).
I found some great pieces on Mecox Gardens, but they'll blow your budget for sure!

LOVE the table and chairs. I like the idea of the clear chairs...but if you can't find affordable ones...try looking for mid-century low-backed chairs at thrift and re-sale stores. Ebay can be a good source as well...though the shipping can be costly.

And there's always DWR.

CB2 has some simpler acrylic chairs than the ghost chairs, the Vapor chair, I think? They have chrome legs. They might not be big enough to handle the wing chairs and table, but it might be worth a try. LOVE the room, can't wait to see how it ends up!

Hi everyone--WOW! What fabulous responses...I was moving a few boxes and come back to so many great suggestions and comments. I love that everyone has a tidbit that is different. That's exactly what kind of advice I was looking for!! When I ask my DH, he says, "Uh, I don't know." And truly he means it. He has no idea what direction I am going with this house and is thoroughly confused by my style. He grew up without art or anything since his family was very poor. I love that everyone here has an opinion!

The color of the wall is BM Pigeon Gray. It reads quite lavender in certain lights. During the evening, it gets more gray and less purple.

The lighter floor is DuChateau pre-engineered in White Oak with the White Oil. The darker sunken part is DuChateau Lugano in the dark espresso.

The light fixture is from LightingUniverse.com and the sconces are generic, hand-me-down cheapies that I can't remember from where (Someone mentioned the vapor chairs--I actually used those for my island stools! Good suggestion.

I LOVE the idea of benches but am worried about my relatives who are quite prone to the "one too many" and might fall backward during dinner :) There's a wonderful designer who I admire named Nicole Hollis and she did a great table and chairs that looks like what I did, but with benches....I love the look, but do I dare? I actually contemplated maybe doing an upholstered bench against the wall (with back) and then doing a backless bench on the other side nearest us from the pic. But whoa baby, that would be even more going on dont'cha think???

I tend to be attracted to visual simplicity but also tend to "over-design" with too many textures and eye-catching object since I don't have any design experience. I might try a few ghost chairs and re-post....then have you guys tell me if it's too much.

I think les is on to something here. Additionally...I don't think the cool edge will show very well even through clear acrylic. How many chair do you think you need? There are a LOT of Danish Modern dining chairs on ebay right not...and several of them might work.

I've linked one set...but it's only four chairs. Shipping is usually pretty reasonable on DM sidechairs...they disassemble for shipping.

Went to your "my page"...you are in N Cal? You should have NO trouble finding great vintage chairs.

These are in SoCal...but pretty darn awesome...and there are six! Rosewood not walnut...but lovely lines.

Those Danish chairs on eBay posted by mjsee are fabulous, and would be perfect, provided the arms are low enough to slide under your table. They would look just wonderful with your arrangement...and hold up your tipsy diners!

At that price, I wouldn't worry too much about the fact that they no longer have their original finish. I'd want to know their provenance, and I'd also expect to recover them, as the details of the vinyl upholstery look a little messy. I'd choose a gray wool boucle, or mohair velvet.

What do you think the chances are that I can find two more? I had originally hoped for 3 on each side so I can seat 8. The table is 9' long.

firsthouse...I don't know. They come up pretty regularly...but not so regularly that I'd guarantee that they'd match. Have you hit the thrift shops/resale shops/goodwill in your area? That's where I found mine...and NC was NOT a bastion for MCM design. Lots of stuff made here...not much SOLD here. If you are in the SF area there should be lots of thrift stores with DM style chairs.

Mine aren't anything special...not a known designer or brand...but they WERE cheap. $225 for all six. Of course...they had so many staples in them I ended up paying to have them re-upholstered instead of doing it myself...at $90/chair...but it was worth it.

If you want to search on ebay...try running two searches. One as "mid-century modern dining chair" and one as "Danish Modern dining chair."

And don't forget Craigslist.

I wonder what it would take to re-upholster the one's I've linked below? $300 for eight aluminum chairs...plus $300 shipping...might be worth it. They don't offer the see-through effect you were looking for...but they are REALLY cool.

I was thinking maybe a modern style parsons chair. Maybe in a nubby texture and a nice color with the same color legs as the cow chairs.

I like the danish modern but was thinking it might be too much with the end chairs. Maybe the parsons will be more "neutral".

Just wondering, are you sure you can fit 3 chairs on each side? Looks to me that only 2 would fit in between the legs of the table. Maybe 3 for special occasions, but looks like it could be a squeeze.

Just for visualizing... I sort of like the all-wood chairs, and definitely don't think the ghost chair works.

I went and looked at chairs but am still stumped. I think I have given up on the Ghost chairs and am now leaning toward something more "organic". Yesterday the rest of my furniture came from storage and changed the whole look of the room. The piano looks looks like a huge black blob and it takes up a huge amount of space.....after I finish with the bookcase, I will post again.
