I am trying to convince my DH to try the drysink in the corner, but he is sure it is to large for the area. I even printed the photos shown and cut the drysink section and placed it behind the table (which would need to be turned) and it did not look right. The board can be taken out of the table since it is only the two of us, to give even more space. I will keep working on it. He is very tired of the small redo. We have been waiting for a wall unit to house the microwave, which will include a pantry and broom closet since before Christmas. He has painted the walls and baseboard twice, and he doesn't like to paint, but he does a great job. When I get home from work I will show you a valance I now have above the sink. It is a cutwork white that I really like. Does the kitchen window/sink area, and the dining are drapes/curtains need to be the same fabric? Thank you all. jejvtr - for the websites. We originally had it caddycornered in its current position, but neither of us liked it, but I liked it about as much as I like it now. sheilaaus - I agree that the greens/blues are a little off after living with them longer. I really like the first fabric, too - the cream, orange, rust etc. andee - if I can move the drysink, the wall now behind it would be a great place for the 'twins'. Otherwise I am out of wall space. Jane PS: One piece of advice I would seriously consider giving is to find drapes/curtains you fall in love with and then find the paint for the walls. Paint can be easily changed, but finding the right fabric/drapes has become a nightmare to match the color we chose.

hi cottonpenny, he is my two cents worth: 1) i love the color palette you have selected the dark gray with white will look great with the rich wood table and hutch. i agree with you that you could modernize the chairs (helping to limit the overload of wood) - perhaps a coat of white paint and some new upholstery in a strip or damask that uses a gray and/or white along with your accent color (will you go yellow or blue?) 2) to help tie the modern color palette with the more traditional furniture pieces, i like the simple drum pendant chandelier options that people have been suggesting. using a simple textured fabric (in white) will be a sophisticated solution. just make sure it has a diffuser to stop glare. 3) on the "rules" for sizing i attach a link to a post on this issue (i get asked this a lot), but based on your numbers above the 46" table can take a 34" diameter fixture (the rule is table width less 12" total). remember this is just a starting point and as they say in pirates of the caribbean more of a "guideline"! i actually like bigger (for impact) but i would start there since here i think the fixture is more part of your overall cool scheme than the one wow moment. hope that helps... I love what u have so far! Great neutral colors. However, I do agree with you the room seems a bit bland as is. U have so many great neutrals. I would suggest getting dark grey drapes to flank either side of the window and accent with golden or teal colors for a bit of pop. The photo above has the warm colored floor and charcoal cabinets, the brass hardware and teal bar stools add a bit of character without losing its sophistication. U could accent with mustard and teal pillows. Do the dark curtain and possibly have a 2nd later under the charcoal drape in one of the accent colors.

Have you considered a pretty white? That would probably look better with beige furniture. BM Swiss Coffee, White Dove and Chantilly Lace are all nice possibilities.
