Design Dilemma Home Decorating

Help! Advice on Office Space

I am finally getting around to working on the built ins in my home office. I want the style/vibe to be “chic”. I’m planning on painting the walls white.

I want to update the hardware on the cabinets and am debating between a bright gold or antiqued brass, what do you think?

I also want to do epoxy marble on the counter top area. Should I add a tile on the wood above the counter to spice it up or leave it as is? I appreciate your creative suggestions!

I'd paint the walls a creamy white, not stark, including the trimwork. Like SW Alabaster or a beige white to blend the color of the cabinets with the wall for a fresher look, not contrast.

Leave the 'backsplash' maybe add a fabric pin board for interest.

the knobs and pulls are just interest, do whatever you like, why the change in countertop? want or need?

Get a new light fixture/fan... they do make integrated flush mount fans with light, but ambient lighting will add a better feel, floor lamps, desk lamps, what about the rest of the room.

The only thing I would sit there to do is write out bills, file, and shred. I removed the desk area from the kitchen because it became a landing spot for too much stuff. I usually sit at the kitchen table to write bills, but I'm not gonna shred or file there, so I'd rather it be in one place. I won't be there for very long. Hopefully. I guess I need to put a pretty picture hanging there to look at just in case! I rarely ever print anything, so the printer is at my son's desk for his school work. I'll keep the lap top in the pantry/office, and try to persuade DH to return it there if he's out and about with it. Good luck, I know. I prefer to have a chair there not only to file and shred with my bad back, but also to have a place to sit and take off wet boots/shoes. This photo was my inspiration, but they have more space at 6 ft wide. Mine is only 47" wide for the table/desk area including the depth of the pantries that are 15". So I'm only gonna have 32" for desk area, but the counter will have a niche area 15" deep running into corner next to pantries. The counter will be 47".

Love to help...need a photo and your budget. Meantime, get rid of the chest of drawers and try something like this arrangement. Ikea is perfect for this project. Put your mattress on top of drawers.

The home office space isn't very large. When you say you don't need all of it, what do you need? Just a desk? No shelving? What else do you want to be able to use the room for? As for the living room, it sounds like you already have a good arrangement. What is it that you don't like about the current arrangement?

Blue and Teal go together and work well with earth tones. The closeup of the carpet shows threads of blue and teal so of course! There are many shades of teal, so I agree, get your furnishings and decor first, then pick a wall color that goes with them and the carpet.

Have you considered updating the fan to a chandelier and adding a rug under the computer chair as well? We might suggest looking at some home office designs to help you make more decisions.

An attractive and comfortable chair that a woman would want to sit in all day to work. Preferably with custom upholstery and nail heads.🙂🍾

I would not add anything as a backsplash - those are for kitchens to protect the walls from splashed food . . . Want this to look like an office.

Agree with the chair suggestion, but the most important thing is that the chair is comfortable and ergonomically appropriate if you are sitting in it for 8+ hours a day.

Have you done poured epoxy before? If not, I would experiment on something else before attempting to do it here. It looks like this is a Formica / laminate top. If I am correct this could easily be covered with another sheet of laminate in the color / pattern of your choice. There are quite a few marble look choices, but I may go for a solid white or solid color vs marble.
