TGIF July 9

I am kicking off the weekend early! It is Swim Team Breakfast day and I have been up since 5 cooking off sheet pan after sheet pan of bacon. 12 lbs are done and the last 3 pans are going in so I can have them at the pool by 8:30 AM. After that, it is a planning lunch for the Tidal Wave Party (after our last meet in 2 weeks - we have an ice cream party) then back home to regroup for Happy Hour with a couple of close GFs.

Tomorrow we are hoping for cooler weather so we can reorganize the garage. The new fridge is arriving and we need to make a little room since it is larger than the old broken one.

Sunday is relaxing and catching up on a little weeding (I hope) and then "Movie in the Park" after dark. That is a fun little community effort where a few people started setting up a screen and showing an older movie for free, with free popcorn and $1.00 Root Beer Floats. Everyone brings blankets and chairs and the kids run amok. It's a really nice way to wrap up the weekend.

I am looking forward to peace and quiet this weekend. My bathroom is being renovated and all day long I am listening to power tools and bashing and crashing. I get out of here as much as possible, but how much shopping can I do? Today is a haircut and color (two hours -- yay!) and then more shopping. Three weeks to go.

I am also looking forward to the possibility of rain tomorrow, although I think it's too little too late for my garden.

So I am mostly going to be home cleaning up dust and enjoying the sounds of silence. Maybe a movie with a friend.

Alex, is this a new fridge just for the garage or are you on the rotation system? I need to make a place for one in my garage soon... Have a fun weekend!

Pam, I hope you share pictures when the bathroom is all done. I hope the workers stay on schedule. Two weeks turned into six here. I hated having to be up, showered and dressed by AM, just in case they showed up...

We are off to the farmer's market early tomorrow morning, the best stuff is always gone by AM, so we are getting there at 8 for the opening. Then more shopping for vacation eats. Sunday I'll make some things ahead, company comes for the week on Monday. We are ready!

Donna - I have a lot of confidence that you will find some time to "play" next week, enjoy the time off! Besh - I agree, don't get frustrated, we have all been there and if you keep behaving it will only be a temporary gain. Suzanne - I love tarragon too, also rosemary. Dee - one of our closest friends is a dentist. I always ask him how it feels to have so many people afraid of you. He is one of the nicest men I know and I can only imagine that he is very gentle and compassionate as a dentist. He lives over an hour away or I would go to him. Marci - I have my gyn appointment in a couple of weeks - I dread it too, but necessary. How is DD doing (and you)? I can't wait to see DD#1 in a few weeks! Patti - if you are reading, we miss you, hope you are having fun being a grandma LOL. My MIL had been visiting since Sunday, she was suppose to leave on Sunday but became very bored and left today. I guess my BIL's house is more exciting (thank goodness). You can't even believe all the things we did with her and she is still bored. She had her hair done, we took her shopping, out on the boat, out to breakfast twice, out to lunch another day and out to dinner one night. DH went into work late so they could spend time together and 20 family members were with us Sunday and Monday. I wish I had time to get bored. QOD - No agenda and I hope it stays that way. I haven't had my house to myself since last Friday and it feels good to just be home. As much as I go out I am really a homebody at heart. Friends are coming up from FL tomorrow evening, so we will probably go boating if the weather permits. Enjoy your weekend.

LOL San...Well it's our only bye weekend for Youth Football..so it's a lazy day..Hubby was going to go into work..but apparently the bed was to comfy..and he couldn't pull himself out...~Darn it kinda..coulda used that overtime $$~ I've been out in the garage rummaging and trying to figure what I can get myself into. LOL... I, like San, know what should and needs to be done..but I'm sure I can find something that will make me forget.. I have a few doors to knock on, to see if they will allow me to remove apples from their property that just are falling to the ground..if so that'll keep me a bit busy for a while. LOL The dog and I have been taking walks in the am...and she's been my shadow all day..she's like hey...I'm ready..where's the leash..I guess it won't hurt to put on the socks and shoes, grab the leash and get a quick stroll in... Have a wonderful weekend everyone...Football is always on here...but I only like to watch if I can watch my children..They don't play on tv YET......

Diane, I had the flu for the first time in my life last fall and I thought I was going to die. I don't think I've ever been that sick except when I had food poisoning. YUCK!! Hope you feel better soon. This week has been fun. We are finally to the point where the construction is slowing down to a crawl and my phone no longer rings every 10 minutes and I only have 1-2 sub contractors here on a daily basis! YEA!!!!! And my carpenter has started on the decorative posts and railing for our wrap-around porch and my goodness does the house look different!! With so few interruptions I now have time to organize my home. First I tackled my pantry and organized all my flours which took a good 3 hours but it felt so good!!! Everything from the bulk store is now in clean, shiny glass jars and all are labeled. Thank goodness for my P-touch!!!! I spent all day on Tuesday in my kitchen and loved it. I baked and cooked all day. And I even had time to do some hand sewing Monday and Wednesday nights...WOW, have not had time for this in almost 2 yrs now. And I leisurely glanced through some magazines too. Thursday I began my fall barn cleaning. I give the big barn a good cleaning twice a year, spring and fall, but last year just did not have time to hose everything down. The new little barn will have to wait as it is still packed with our furniture. Oh well, it's new, just built in Fall of '05 so not too many cob webs yet...LOL!! Friday, I took off for some shopping and came home with a wonderful very red baking dish. DH said "like we need a new baking dish" but actually I've been looking for a smaller deep dish baking dish and this one is perfect and did I say it's red!! :)) Wishing everyone a great weekend! Major tree drama here tonight. LOL! Had to get the chain saw out to get the dang thing to fit in the tree stand....it's up in the house finally. Nancy, I've got a list on the counter I keep adding to tonight. Hitting the store first thing in the morning for everything I forgot earlier this week. Surprised you don't have more snow on the ground and your grass is green. We had a low of 13 here this week so everything is pretty much dead and brown now. Plenty of crown on hand though... Sharon, I've been wondering how you two were adjusting to the full time cottage life. I remember when I lived in the cabin up at the lake and like you said, it's pretty much dead this time of the year. Sounds like you will have a great time at Chris's place this weekend. Glad to hear that things are working out well for him and Amity. Hope Meredith's BF shows up too....Doug and Sara will make it a great evening for sure. You two (Sara) doing your baking weekend this year? Lars, I hope it's not to cold in Texas when you and Keving head down there. I know it what pretty chilly in Dallas this week. I know your family is a little farther south in the valley but it can get chilly there too. Fresh apples from your tree sound like the perfect gift for your boss. I remember you sending lemons and other things from your trees at your old place in swaps years ago. I also remember you making various chocolates for the holidays so whatever you decide I'm sure she will love it. Annie, sounds like a great time will be had with princess and bruvver. Can't wait to see pics of Madison...another one for you to spoil and have fun with in the kitchen for sure. Guessing she will love sprinkles on her cookies and cakes in a couple of years. Heck, she will be running that bread machine just like the princess in a couple of years...I'm sure of it. Alexa, sounds like a great day pal. Sorry to hear that DS will miss his swim meet.HOpe he is feeling better soon. Love to hear/see more about this wet bar. Is it in the sunroom? Man, you two always have a great project going on. Don't think I would Recognize your place with all that you have done the last couple of years. Trixie, you know I love Football so a big congrats and good luck to your hometown team. Hope they take state and playing in Jerry's fancy new stadium would put the icing on the cake for sure. I don't want to talk about college ball after the last few weeks...cough...cough. The NFL has been interesting too to say the least. Thinking LSU will take it home this year in college. Katie, enjoy that weekend off my friend. Everclear, who knew you could make all that with that stuff. Just another reason I still love this place. Congrats on your DD new place too. I finished remodeling my house after three years worth of work last weekend and we're having the party to celebrate it and both of my parent's birthdays (dad's is today and mom's was yesterday). Tomorrow I'll cook cakes and clean and then Sunday will be an all day thing with lunch, cake, and party!

I am soooo glad it's Friday! Just spent three hectic 11 hour days at one of my part time jobs, so a day off is welcome!

Alexa, your "wrap up" on Sunday sounds like a ton of fun!

Pam, I hope your bathroom project stays on schedule too. The banging and crashing can't be fun, but it will be worth it in the end!

Nancy, how is your remodel coming along? Hope you get in on some good stuff at the farmer's market. I really need to make a trip to Mpls. to the big one there.

Going shopping today for some summer clothes. No big plans for tomorrow, but Sunday I am joining a friend and going on the annual garden tour that the hospital auxilliary sponsors every year.

Will clink with a glass of red this evening. Right now, I am off to the mall (which I absolutely hate, but I need something to wear)! LOL

My son is coming from Chicago tonight with the 15 year old twins and tomorrow my daughter is coming with her 15 year old son, and we will get my flooded basement cleaned out.
There is a very very large soggy pile or National Geographics that my late husband saved....every issue from 1930 something until I stopped taking it about 10 years ago....among other stuff!
I will be grilling some honkin' big steaks and some fresh Iowa sweet corn.....and there's lots of beer and coke. Clink!
Meanwhile I have my air set on 67 trying to dry things out!

Nancy, enjoy your week and your company. The farm markets are just starting nicely here, so I hope you can get some good stuff. It got too wet too quickly here, so the cherries mostly split and they're done, hopefully you still have some up there.

Linda, I need to do the same thing, but I'm not going to. Not yet. Maybe if I wait I can avoid it altogether, although I look like a bum. (grin)

LindaC, it just doesn't sound right to tell you to dry out, LOL, but I do hope you get the basement cleaned. Make the kids do it.

Here it's supposed to be hot and humid. Elery will be here tonight and my mother is coming over so that I can show her how to put pictures on the computer and then send them on-line to be printed. Tomorrow is house painting. Yeah, some more. Sunday I have to garden, it's been in the 90s and the humidity has been in the 90s too, so the weeds are growing like, well, weeds.

Monday we leave to visit Elery's Dad in Ohio. Elery asked my Mother to go along, so I'll be Mother-sitting for three days until we get back...

Ded, e-mail me your phone number I want to call you for bathroom remodeling advice. I have been trying to find someone to do mine for YEARS. It has to get done this summer.

For once in my life, I have some actual weekend plans, other than housework, errands, and cooking food for the week's meals. My new SO wants to take me out to dinner!! He is one of the sweetest men in the world. Really, I don't deserve him and I keep telling him that but apparently he is a glutton for punishment. We are going out to a seafood restaurant near me. He knows I love seafood but can't afford to buy/eat it.

SO tells me he wants to help me attend to the yard this weekend. Maybe he's just tired of clawing his way thru the jungle to get to my back door.

TGIF, a day when the heat isn't in the upper 90's, and perhaps some relief on Saturday too!

Linda (doucanoe), I'm with you about the mall. I am a bit odd for a woman, I suppose, but I HATE to shop for clothes. As far as I'm concerned, the internet is the best mall!

LincaC, oh yuckers on a flooded basement! Here's to hoping that you don't come across anything spoiled that makes you sad. Hopefully, it'll turn out positively, helping you to get rid of a bunch of junk. I agree with Annie...you're cooking and feeding them, let the kids do the work!

Today is my our anniversary, but my husband is working a long day so we're out and celebrating tomorrow. I have an unexpected afternoon off, so I'm thinking I must do something special for tonight and surprise him, but I don't know what yet. It occurs to me that I've never baked my husband a cake, so maybe that's an idea.

Lots of fun stuff goin on this weekend for the GW gang! Well except for Linda but I am sure she'll put a good spin on it all and come out smiling!!

I took a day off from interveiwing fance and cement guys whew...I need it....turning the cell off too!!
I think we pretty much made up our minds anyhow.

I have to work tonight...as a checker-something I don't do very often and to top things off, I fell coming onto the house last night and hurt my left foot...OUCH!! I just banged it pretty bad and its ok but I am sure todays shift is going to be "LOVELY"!!

I have few appts tomorrow and then working regular job at night. Then I am off for the week!!
I an going to lay tile in the lanai-FINALLY!!!
Plus we have a few small jobs to check off the list before the big work starts next month!!

So many great reasons to celebrate. Anniversaries, swim meets, new bathrooms, fences, SO's....; ) and sons that come home to help clean up flooded basements : (

This weekend will be a work weekend for us. Got to get the house and gardens in order so we can head for the cottage for the rest of the summer. Woo Hoo!!!!

wow it does seem like (almost) everyone is up to happy activities this weekend! How nice :)

I am celebrating my 15 yr olds amazing MVP tournament game from last night - it was a tug of war from 8:30 to 11pm and mr Sands was still at work so me and 10 yr old watched Andrew play the game of his life! Dive roll catch off the pitchers mound in the 6th of 7, a stand up triple with the bases loaded in the second to last inning to put them in the lead and first baseman in the 7th when they double-played the other team out of the tourney. And he tackle-hugged me when got in off the triple, all filthy 5ft-10 of him in front off all the other parents - D@mn I love that kid!

I hope we all have a gorgeous weekend!

TGIF, all! We are finally getting some heat...not that I like it when it's 93, but the garden sure does.

I was happily weeding this morning when I got a call that someone wasn't coming to work...so much for a day off. But DH says there's a mug in the freezer and he promises to hand me a margarita when I walk in the door. Hopefully I can swap for a day off midweek. It's hard to get away...we're in the middle of Summer Reading and the place is crawling with little monst....errrrr...angels.

Tomorrow is a short day at work. Sunday we'll get up reallllly early and finish weeding (if that's even possible), then take a picnic and the atv up into the hills where it's cool and scout for huckleberries.

I'll be clinking in about an hour and a half. Have a good weekend everyone.

LOL I read that post back and realized how excited I was writing it forgive me -what a pile of typos and grammatical errors! I worked today and we're all still tired we didn't wind down till after midnight, Andrew wanted to tell Dad about the game.

A late night clink and TGIF to everyone!!

I'm doing a bunch of nothing this weekend. I'm in recovery mode from major company the last couple of weeks. Last weekend being the big influx. Loved every minute of it but it is time to chill for this guy.

I really wanted to do some canning this weekend but I think it will wait. I see sleeping in and laying around the pool taking over the weekend. As of now I'm ignoring that mountain of towels and bedding in the laundry room too. LOL
