First, thanks for your thoughts and support....I/we really do appreciate it!

Dad is still stable for the most part. The hematoma is still very small...they continue to monitor it by doing cat scans. As of now they will not do surgery. This is a small bleed and at this time they think it will correct itself and the body will absorb the blood on its own. That can take some time from what they tell us...nothing to worry about unless the size on the scan starts to increase. I guess some people have these and don't show any signs of them for several weeks until the signs start showing up...more so for older people due to the shrinkage of the brain and fragile vessels.

The MRI report shows two bulging discs and one ruptured one in the lower back. For now they are not addressing that issue but he will probably need surgery.

He had some heart challenges yesterday. They have him on a monitor and did an EKG. They told us this more than likely just due to the trauma his body has endured in general.

Stepmom is doing okay for the most part. I think she, like the rest of us, was under stress and freaking out when this all happened. First, waiting in the ER and then all of the this may happen...he could have this....there is a spot or clot on the brain...etc... Doesnt' help that it seems to take some time to hear from the various doctors once they tell you about all of the possible complications and waiting for test results.

He is diabetic too so that adds another factor to some of the test they do. Something to do with the meds he is on.

Overall, the doctors think he is doing okay all things considered. I've not made plans to go up there as of now even though I want to....he has made it clear that he doesn't want any family doing that as of now....I know that sounds terrible...my family and I will honor his wishes for now...it's a family/private matter...I'll leave it at that for now....

Also, the guy that hit him was only cited with reckless driving. Stepmom is still feeling guilty as she took the keys and ran ahead of him to get to the car because she was cold and the wind was blowing. Told her she could have been hit too and in the same condition. Crazy how life and things play out in the big picture.

This really shocked the heck out of me/us. The insurance companies called today wanting statements from Dad or the family. His and the guy that hit him....WTF!! He is still in the damn hospital!!! There is something so wrong with that IMHO.

I haven't had alot of time to post lately but I have been praying for your Dad, you and your family.

What bothers me is a reckless driving citation to the person that hit him. WHAT!

My heart and prayers goes out to your Dad, you, your Step-mom, and your whole family. I pray the news continues to be good. It's probably good for you to be where you are now, as he'll be needing your help more once he goes home, I'd imagine. It's hard to stay away, I'm sure, but it looks like he has someone there as an advocate while he's in the hospital.

Actually Ken ran out of Crown tonight and he brought up your name - I said what the he!! does your drinking habits have to do with David - and he didn't really have an answer to that one, but honest to God, we love you David and hope that Dad improves and the insurance/police/lawyer/whatever situation works out. Guess you'll need that crazy gal from the back of that Jeep to help you out there.

Hi David, just checking in on your dad and you. Both my insuance company and the truck driver's insurance company contacted my family and wanted a statement while I was still in the hospital. They were told to wait until I felt better and got home and they did. So make them wait on your dad's schedule...not the insurance companies'. Also, if your dad is contemplating hiring an attorney to go after the driver that hit him, it might be best to wait to make a statement to the driver's insurance company until he has representation.

Ah damn, I'm sorry I missed this David. Been out of commission for a little while, but popped in to check on my forum friends. I am praying for your dad to recover fully from this awful accident, and you, your family and especially your stepmom to get some peace of mind. Stinkin' insurance companies don't waste any time, do they? They shouldn't be interviewing him if he's alone, a family member or trusted friend should be present. Thanks again for all of your good thoughts everyone! They sent Dad home today to continue his recovery. He will have to go in a couple of times a week for tests to check on various things. The bleed has not increased in size so they think it has stopped but they will continue to monitor that with scans and watching for the various physical signs that would indicate a problem. The heart problem is good too, like they said, probably just due to the trauma. NOt sure if he will need to have surgery on his back. They are in a wait and see mode for now. Needless to say he is still in a lot of pain and will be for some time. He gave us quite a scare that's for sure. We are just glad that it wasn't as bad as it could have been. He/they didn't give any statements to the insurance companies and have contacted a lawyer...mainly to make sure the med bills not covered by insurance are covered. Any other settlement will depend on his overall recovery and or loss of his normal physical abilites.

Sorry for the late update, I've been on a overnight business trip and just got home a couple of hours ago. We are very thankful that he his doing as good as he is considering what could have happened. Thank you again for all of your support and good thoughts...I forwarded this to all of my family and they really do appreciate your concerns. We hope that things continue to progress in a positive direction with his recovery.

Great news, but I'm sorry he has to suffer with the back pain. I'm sure that's much more difficult for him to deal with. Let him know that I'm sending more healing energy and congratulate him for retaining a lawyer. In this day and age you have to have an advocate against the big insurers. Sad, but true.

David, thank goodness he is home and on the mend. I worry a bit about your step mom, not easy and very scary to have the worry of taking care of someone with the injuries your Dad has. Hope she is getting some support too.

It's always horrible when carp happens but it is particularly difficult for the elderly. You,, and they, are in my thoughts.

Thanks again everyone! The major concern we had was with the hematoma/ brain bleed. Thankfully it was very small and for now seems to be contained or stopped. They will continue to monitor this over the next several weeks. The ribs will heal on their own with time. As far as the back issues are concerned they are in a wait and see mode. We hope that will take care of itself too. This whole thing scared the heck out of all of us in the beginning but we are very thankful that it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Stepmom is fine and one of my sisters and her DH live there too. That along with a great circle of friends they have more than enough help to see them through the recovery and what that might bring depending. Dad is 64 and SM is 58. They are and have been very active so that is a good thing for him. Their current thing is working on a little cabin up in the hills...they dug the ditches for a water line from a well they had installed themselves. Dad has always had some kind of project going on and the doctors say that it's good he has stayed active and physical. He will be going in several time a week for various test and check ups until he is fully recovered. He is still ticked that he can't have a cold one due to the meds he is on....lol! The bleed on the brain was/is very small and they will continue to watch that with scans and looking for any physical signs.....they seem to think that it will not be a problem as of now. They meet with a attorny next week just in case there are any medical bills that need to be paid and if there is any challenges with his overall phyical abilities. Thanks again for all of your good thoughts, prayers and well wishes. The positive power of this group is amazing....

Sorry I got here late - but it's nice to see Lee posting again, although sadly under a tragic circumstance. Your parents should not be out any money because of this accident - there is clearly someone else at fault, and the attorney should be able to take care of that for you. Your father is lucky that the driver was caught - so many times these accidents are hit and run with no witnesses, and that would have been even more tragic. I think you are good at keeping a positive attitude, as are your parents, and that is always a help.

My thoughts remain with your family for a speedy recovery.

I finally got back to our own home yesterday afternoon and while there will be some challenges for a while, it does feel good. It's sunny but chilly and windy this morning and I'm glad that I don't have any appointments scheduled. Max is happy that he will have a whole day at his office.
