Royal Botanical Gardens - Glasgow, Scotland
Comments (10)WOW,Ricky! How gorgeous!! You were in the country I most want to visit in all the whole world, and visiting a spot I've always thought would be really neat! I'm planning to go next summer, if all goes well, and Glasgow is definitely on our agenda. We will HAVE to see this place! My favorite photo is the fuchsia with the beautiful blue morning glory peeking through. What a picture! I loved all the pitcher plants and other goodies...and YEP, I spotted those COLEUS, too! But my favorite plant would have to be that one near the end that looks like a lavender spirea! Oh, that is just too beautiful!! Thanks so much for sharing. Looking forward to more! Comments (5)Thank you, all, for the comments. I was fortunate to see them. The flock that was here in February -March for about a month was visible only as they began roosting in the evening. They crowded all together in an evergreen privet. The holly was full of fruit at that time but a mockingbird was standing guard and wouldn't allow any intruders. I'm not sure if he was overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of waxwings this time or if he was off duty. I never saw these birds while living in Pennsylvania. I am planting fruiting shrubs and trees to attract them....See MoreHave you had your Fifteen Minutes of Fame?
Comments (34)Well apparently I had my 15 minutes of fame - but does it count if you didn't know about it at the time? I was at my local nursery/garden center near my home. It's family owned and I've been shopping there for nearly 30 years. One spring morning last year I was there checking out holly bushes when a reporter for the Philadelphia ABC affiliate asked if I would mind being filmed for a short interview about the nursery. I agreed and was thankful that I wasn't wearing my normal gardening attire of worn out blue jeans and a dirty T shirt. I had been to the dentist earlier so I even had on some make up. But most importantly I figured that they'd interview several customers and pick the best one for the news report and I was absolutely confident that it wouldn't be me! I did notice them filming other customers so I was sure I was safe but I did ask when it was going to be on TV. The reporter told me that the item would air either that evening or the following evening during the 6 pm news. Well I looked at both shows and didn't see anything but a week later I started getting phone calls from friends telling me they had seen me on the Sunday morning news show. So there it is and I missed it....See MoreCleanup time (plus enough characters to make at least fifteen)
Comments (3)I agree Ingrid; this was a lovely journey. I think you could have a wonderful and very successful gardening blog, Melissa, if you wanted to—your writing is very evocative and intriguing. Wish I could really be there and lend a hand to your clean up project. I’d love to just spend a day soaking it all up. :-)...See More- 1 hour agolast modified: 1 hour ago
