Everything for our celebratory breakfast looks wonderful. My fruit and yogurt with my homemade Lemon Curd is outstanding as always. My Cappucino with local Roadmap Espresso beans as well is perfection. But these Croissants shipped from Gold Belly by Ceci-Cela are truly horrible.

Thick bready heavy and a terrible no butter flavor almost like the shipping box cardboard smelled.

We have had croissants world-wide abd never ever had anything as bad as these. I have written the company and reviewed online. Now we have 10 more frozen. 😡👎

Digging up this old thread after doing a multi-year experiment. I've had great results with Ambrosia cantaloupe over the years until I began trying other cultivars. So my experiment was to plant only Ambrosia vs. planting Ambrosia and another cultivar. The results thus far are - in (3?) years where only Ambrosia was planted all melons were sweet, vs. in (3?) years where another variety was planted along side Ambrosia, some Ambrosia melons were sweet and some were not. So, was this coincidence or were the non-sweet Ambrosia melons cross pollinated? Or, could it be that the seeds planted in the inconsistent years not true Ambrosia Hybrid quality? Second, our local garden center expert prefers Aphrodite over Ambrosia...says it's a sweeter melon.

Raybo: Looks awesome. I was under the assumption that everyone pull their crop at the beginning of frost. I pulled mine in early December when the fruits were starting to look funny. I am starting my seeds now. Care to share some KBX ? I order some seeds from tomatofest. You give me hope next near to keep my tomato possibly inside, but keep it going all year round. Good luck this year. I think you live in SJ area if I am not mistaken.

My vote would be to keep the trim consistent throughout the house. But there are ways to scale down the trim in some areas and still keep the same basic look. My parents' house was an 1880s Victorian. On the first floor, there were tall baseboards, with an large flat portion from the floor up to about 8 inches, and then some varied molding. On the second floor, the flat portion was about 6 inches, and had some of the same molding on top, but one less layer. Then, in the attic, which had rooms for the long-gone live-in servants, the flat portion was about 4 inches and had a much simpler, but still consistent molding on top. The brass door knobs had a very large, very elaborately engraved brass plate behind them on the first floor, a smaller version with the same design on the second floor, and in the attic, the door plates were the same size as the second floor, but with a simpler version of the same pattern. As other posters have said, the public rooms get the big, fancy version, the private rooms get a similar, but lesser version of the same thing. Can you put your finger on why you don't like the more formal trim in your house? It certainly looks appropriate to your home, and in your daughter's room, it compliments the style of furniture. Whatever you decide, I think you should pick either one of the current trims in your house, the formal or the plain, or a variation of one of them. I wouldn't introduce a third type of trim in the same house. Like too many different types of flooring visible from the same spot, it will look a bit chaotic. My current house has three different styles of trim, and I can't figure out what previous owners were thinking. There's a very simple trim that I think was the original (back in 1900), a slight variation on the simple trim in a few rooms that I think was added later, and a couple of rooms that had the pine floors upgraded to hardwood and a more elaborate trim installed. But they chose odd rooms--one bedroom, the living room and dining room got hardwood floors. The same bedroom, the dining room and the bathroom got the fancier trim, but not the living room. The hallway got upgraded baseboards, but not the living or dining rooms. It's a mystery.

I don't care for most of the rooms in the article--or perhaps I should say I have a hard time relating to them. They're overly formal, overly opulent, overly staged. But I try to keep an open mind about some of the trend pronouncements. What I find, speaking strictly personally, is that I'm a bit slow to like many trends, whether it be in fashion or decorating. Of course some I just NEVER learn to like, but others have to creep up on me, I have to be exposed for a while before I embrace them. Is that just marketing? Maybe. I also find that sometimes I develop a liking for something that later ends up being trendy and I think "wow, I was ahead of the curve on that!" But was I really, or was it subliminal exposure to a coming trend that finally reaches market saturation? One example is sun faces: I started acquiring them several years ago and then suddenly noticed them being sold everywhere. Here's another example: I was browsing an old, maybe 2004, decorating magazine and saw an white ceramic owl vase/umbrella stand. It was instant lust, I really loved that thing. But in the process of trying to track it down I suddenly realized that owls are everywhere. I suspect that my attraction to that owl vase was from being exposed, unaware, to the increasing number in the marketplace. So I'm trying to dampen my knee-jerk antipathy to some of her pronouncements, like white walls/woodwork when I really enjoy strong-colored walls and white woodwork. I suspect that with enough exposure I'll come around. Not that I want to be a victim of trends: wall paint is easy enough to change, but I'd certainly have to think long and hard about painting floors or furniture. I can't see giving up my oriental rugs. I like light furniture, like my antique scrubbed pine cupboard, but I'm not crazy about the washed-out settings they seem to be displayed in now. I wonder if some of these designers are watching too many vampire movies! Oh well, enough navel gazing.

How disappointing. It sure does look nice, though. Bread pudding is a good idea. Or, you could throw them out to the birds.

I'd disagree that the bread for either bread pudding or bread and butter pudding needs to be good. Both are traditional ways of using up old, stale loaves. I honestly don't think the quality of the bread is that important.

@porkchop_z5b_MI my post isn’t showing. It was $65!!!! I am going to slice it in 1/2 and butter it, broil it abd top with fresh strawberries . will make a nice dessert. 👍

And another vote for bread and butter pudding. I always put marmalade on my buttered bread as well, which I think levels it up in terms of flavour.

You could also make ham and cheese toasted croissants- split the croissant in half, toast and butter it, fill with cheese and ham then pop into the oven to melt the cheese and heat it through :-) Makes a nice light lunch dish with a little side salad.

Yes @colleenoz will likely do that as well. We were buying frozen unbaked ones locally and thawing and rising them and they were outstanding and only $15 for 6! Then they changed suppliers and they aren’t quite as light. But still only $15 for 6. These are $5 ea + shipping and definitely inferior.

DH is the one who keeps wanting them. I couldn’t care less. I want my homemade breads and rolls any day .

Oh well this cured him on ordering away! 🤞

So DH preheatedthe big oven to 400 and put the croissants in for 10 min with parchment under them then put a piece of parchment over them and turned it back to 350. Forgot to do timer 😳 .

Anyway a big improvement. Shiny now and the outside is perfect crisp crumbs everywhere. The center still isn’t perfect but with more heat the butter layers will delineate as well . The biggest issue now is how brown they are to start with so have to fine tune the temp/ time. Any suggestions will be appreciated but we are getting closer—— and fatter!

So the directions that the company send are terrible for sure! They say open the box and eat. Nope nope nope.
