The actors of old had so much character and weren't full of themselves as they are today. They struggled in their careers and were appreciative to have been recognized as good actors. And despite being such a great actor, he enjoyed his ranch and the simple things in life. How charming. Quite different from what we have today. I recall when watching Fred McMurray whom I adored as an actor how fortunate it must have been to have a father such as him as you could detect the man from his demeanour. You can definitely see his character in his daughter in the video illustration, with her own calm appreciative demeanour. You can only think what a fortunate person to have had such a special life with such a special man. So wonderful that the family purposed to find a way to carefully have someone assume the property to preserve and maintain the respect for it that her father had. Nice to see that not everything gets destroyed by dastardly developers.

THIS is a house! There is a lesson here for everyone on Houzz, everyone who sees a kitchen that is (*gasp*) 15 or even just 5 years old and proclaims it to be a candidate for gutting because it is “dated”. Note that this house has no granite, no finish du jour (first it was chrome, then polished nickel, and I think we’re allowed to do copper and maybe even brass this year, but wait, next year it will be different).

A trip to MacMurray Ranch was the first employee trip my (future) husband and I made together as young Gallo employees almost 20 years ago. We always discussed how much we loved the design and feeling of that property. Never would we have thought we would have the opportunity to purchase an old farmhouse, barn and vineyard near our small East Tennessee hometowns that had so many of the features of this home....and it is really neat to return to the photos here so we can continue to recreate these rooms in our house as we renovate it. I even have my grannie’s collection of apple plates to display in the kitchen. Thanks for preserving the photos here!
