Sevin dust everywhere won't help.

Neither will bug bombs. (They're highly over-rated and don't put out a "gas" which permeates every nook and cranny.)

What works is the following:
1. Apply an appropriate vet-recommended product to all your animals.
2. Vacuum regularly. This includes any furniture the critters sleep/rest on.
3. Wash the animals' bedding at least once a week.
4. Comb each animal regularly as a means of monitoring the flea population -- Fewer fleas means you're getting a handle on the situation. Even so, you're unlikely to ever be flea-free.

Recently I asked my vet because my dog was coming inside with fleas. He told me that the main ingredient of grub insectaside if the same ingredient in some of the vet recommended products. He suggested to use that or one of the bt products for fleas on the lawn where the dog has access. You will need to check the labels and decide for yourself.

Sorry, but a bt product won't work for fleas.

That advice is very risky.

I suggest you go to a vet who can give you specifics. Products are available specifically for pets, in the correct dosage. Beyond that, cats can't tolerate all the flea meds available for dogs.

Thank you for all your replies. I do give the cats and the dog the appropriate K9 product for each - there just happened to be an explosion of fleas maybe due to the dry weather which for the first time, over-rode the K9 medicine. And now they are in the house.
I am washing the rugs and bedding every week, and I am dusting the cts, spraying the dog, and spraying the carpet. So y'all dont think the sevin will help on the bare spots in the yard?
I reckon I need to be more patient, I have never had an issue with fleas, and I am overwhelmed.

Use advantage. I used it 4 years ago and have been flea free since. I have 2 inside cats. I still have the 2 extra doses of advantage. It only took one dose each.

Jean Advantage and most of the grub insecticides have the same ingredient(Imidacloprid). What my vet was telling me since he knows I am against putting things in my yard that could harm anything is that the same chemical was being used therefore I could have less worry about spreading the grub killer on the area my pets use. My vet knows I will look up anything he tells me before it goes in or on or around my pets.

I do not use Advantage because it does not prevent the eggs from hatching but use Frontline Plus.

Since many fleas are carried into the house from outside on pant legs and shoes it is important to treat the approaches and lawn for fleas.

I have also used Bio Halt which at the time was sold as containing bt's. It worked when the grass was wet but not in dry conditions. If you could keep lawn area moistened to keep it active it might work.

I am extra careful because about 20 years ago I killed my dog Walter because of fleas. He developed kidney failure after I over applied all kinds of flea medication both to him and his surrounding areas. He was such a wonderful pet that when he started developing problems he used the kitties litter box instead of telling us he needed to go out. The morning of the first snow when I saw the blood on the snow I lost it. By that time the only thing my vet could do with his advanced kidney problem was to tell us to love him and gave a kidney diet to Walter. He passed away the following spring. Since then I always do research before I use any chemical.

No point in treating bare spots in the yard.

Fleas reside in the animals' "nests." That is, the fleas are where the animal sleep and doze. Your outside cat is the one who is continuing to repopulate the house.

The active ingredient used for flea and tick control on dogs is the same, BUT it is manufactured in an entirely different way, as well as delivered to the pest in a very unique manner. That active ingredient is a hazard to living organisms if they ingest it or inhale it, etc. I would never spray or broadcast it in the yard to control fleas.

Another problem is that you're ganging up on the fleas with a variety of chemicals. Your pests are being exposed to dusts and sprays applied to them as well as your carpets. This is NOT a good situation for your pets. I worry about them.

For the safety of your pets (and you), I'd cease all use of pesticides other than the topical meds you administer to your animals. Then, you can purchase a growth regulator for fleas...which will give you the long-lasting control you're looking for.

Years ago, when I was plagued by a flea problem, I used the IGR (insect growth regulator) called Precor. I can be sprayed on carpets, flooring, animal bedding, etc. (Do NOT mix other pesticides with it.) Do not spray it on your animals. I found the Precor locally, but it's certainly available on line.

The Precor, along with the proper flea and tick med. did the trick for good.

It must be a thing with this area because although I agree that the indoor outdoor cat is probably bringing fleas in some years in the past if you wore light colored pants you could see the fleas hop onto your clothing. The years this happened were years following a animal explosion.

Given what I wrote about Walter please reduce what you are doing inside and with your pets.

Rizo, I will look for Precor. I am in the habit of banishing everyone outside in the spring and letting off flea bombs that contain IGR. I think the growth inhibitor is why until this year when I did not bomb I have seen several fleas on my dog and cats.

I have an IG Regulator with NYLAR that I have not used yet - the feed store said it as safe to spray carpets and bedding - the active ingredient (1.3%) is 2-[1-Methyl-2-(4-phenoxphenoxy)ethoxy] pyridine. Other ingredients 98.7% is NYLAR which contains ptroleum distillate

I really appreciate y'alls help and concern and I am very concerned now, I hope I havent done the wrong things.
Here is my list of what I have used, maybe y'all can just tell me yes or no and clarify "topicalmeds"

1. Hartz Ultra Guard Plus - flea and tick home spray. (I used on carpets and bedding)
2. Hartz Ultra Guard Plus - flea and tick carpet powder. (I usd at a different time on crpets and furniture)
3. Frontline
4. Sergeants flea and tick power for use on cats
5. Seargeants flea and tick spray for use on cats
6. Hartz flea and tick sprayfor dogs
7. Adams No-Bite flea & tick mist for cats and dogs
8. Hartz flea and tick shampoo

I have not used these all on top of each other - but these are the products I have tried, except the shampoo and the IG Regulator.

Be careful what you post about animals now. Remember that we have an idiot being put in charge that would love to take your money in the name of your pet. Next thing you know our pets will be living in homes taken from the owners and the pets will have caretakers appointed by the government to live with and spend your former pets money if still alive. If not the crooks will keep the homes for themselves. I'll probably be put on a terrorist watch list for posting this lol.
