This article brings back a flood of memories ... the year was 1994, and for the first time in my life I made a New Year's resolution. I would host one dinner party a month for the year. I invited enough people to fill the dining room table (for a total of 10 people), and I would choose at least one item on the menu that I had never made before. There would be a different guest list each month. That was my platform for hosting.

But ... what crept into that year was a bunch of renovations to the house. It did not stop me. While I won't go into the particulars, I can say I will never forget how much fun they were.

When the year was over, it had been clear that no one really cared what was served for dinner. It was all about the timing, the lively conversation, and the laughter ... especially the laughter!

Two thumbs up for izabela85 for printing menus for guests. A type 1 diabetic guest would greatly appreciate a menu with carb count per serving size.

I have found it's easier not to set my expectations too high - keeping it simple and easy is best, then you can really concentrate on the guests who feel much happier than if you're absent most of the time slaving in the kitchen. Also, list list list! Tick off what has to be done and be sure you haven't missed anything important.
