Ha! Don't get me started on the oak table that was anything but solid. Or the tiled table that had at least three cracked tiles within 24 hours. Or . . . I'm sure you get the idea. After years of experience with buying what I could "afford," I have decided to go the opposite route and yes, I will sit on the floor, bad knees and all, until I can find a chair that is both comfortable to sit in and durable enough to last long after I am tired of it.

If we all would shop second hand and vintage, some of the time... most of us would have finer furniture. I am on the hunt for a mid century sofa and matching chair to complete my mostly vintage home. I'd rather have some character than peeling particle board. Don't get me wrong... I do like that Swedish big box store where style comes cheap and they do have some pieces that do last. But my 60 year old slipper chair is gonna outlive my Ektorp sofa.

I really enjoyed this article. My husband and I (born near the end of the Baby Boomers) agree with the millennials: solid wood is MUCH better than particle board with veneers. I am so glad to see the that our children's generation is willing to wait for things, and are also going back to the basics. The experiment of consumerism was a failure, I think, and to see so many embracing simplicity is a breath of fresh air.
