OK all you ornamental gardners - Sylvia has shown us how she spends her time (incredible, daunting, etc etc) and we should respond with some of our flower pics. Though it's hard to compete with all her fruits and veggies, to say nothing of the delicious looking food.

Ah well, here's how I spent part of the weekend.

I wanted a platform for pots, so chose to build this deck rather than deal with stones.

Somehow this pic of Anna's milkweed got in here - amazing what a little rain will do!

Here's a view from afar..

One of the many bromeliads I have - it's new and blooming, so I have it in a pot for now.

My new Lakeview jasmine blooming - I have 6 of them spotted around and the fragrance is so wonderful.

sorry the photos got messed up - still can't get them to the small size even though I resize them!

So I hope others will share how their places look after rains

Your garden is amazing! It is one of the gardens that I hope to see one day, you have a very good taste and your flowers combination are something to applaud!

Keep us showing us some beauty, we should all be happy that we don't have to water the garden with the rains that we are getting.:)

I also wasn't clear in one of the pics - that WAS my garden with the milkweed Anna gave me! I hope she sees it (happy butterflies)Happy Hester!

I have a T-shirt which say "PLAN? We don't need no stinkin plan". Some graduate students of a field biologist made up the shirts, depicting the professor as a pistol packing, ammunition belted bandito. The joke was that on each freshman field trip some student would approach the professor asking what the plan was, to the professor's great annoyance. Field trips do have some advance planning, but once they get out into the field whatever they come across determines what happens next. But the freshmen are used to everything being orderly, and have a hard time grasping the novelty of being out in the field to study nature as is. Edna gets the stars! Lynn...I feel for you Big Time.. I know of all the 'prep' that goes into doing a huge painting job and it's no picnic. But like the others have said, think of how relieved you will now feel that it's all behind you. It does play havoc on your body too...seems there are muscles used that we never knew we had till they ache! The reason I can relate..when we lived in our 'This Old House'... DH always had some 'project' or reno planned that would start in the Spring, But ALWAYS went right up to the final hrs before the Holidays. This always brought on major stress since we were the ones who would host all the family for Christmas. I do have to say, once it was over..it was over and it felt sooo good to enjoy what was done... This too will pass Lynn...once it's all put together again, I know I will be 'seeing' your big smile as you're enjoying the results! jane

After yearning all my apartment-living life for a house with a garage...I finally have one and rarely use the garage! We can fit one car in there and still have a little storage room in the back, but I generally only pull in (sometimes) if a big storm is coming. Like most in this neighborhood, it's a detached, single wide, cinder block style. It has windows on either side and a door near the back, but the framing is coming loose and/or things have settled so much that the door won't close because it doesn't fit the opening anymore. We keep it closed with a padlock to a metal hinge type thing! And at one time it had electricity, though never a door opener. We can't figure that out - there's a light switch, a light bulb and an electrical wire that runs along the top of the cinderblock near the rafters - only we can't figure out where it goes INTO the garage! We suspect that it ran underground and got messed up when they extended the kitchen backwards and built a deck, or maybe the appropriated the breaker for something else? So, it's a pretty shabby garage painted an appalling lime green on one side, but I'm still happy to have it. Haven't done much to it besides adding a pegboard to the walls to hang garden tools on. Even more important than a garage on the wishlist for my next house would be a double driveway. We live in a city that doesn't allow overnight parking and doing the car shuffle in our very narrow single wide driveway is a real pain!

Yup, I'm retired - which makes me not young, but...as long as I can still do this, I will.
Let's just say I'm obsessed, with no other hobbies 'cept reading when it rains...and when I moved here in April 2010, the place was bare except for trees and bougs - so I went at it ...just couldn't stand all the bareness - I've certainly made some mistakes, but soon I'll start moving things around and redo!...glad you enjoyed the pics

Wow, Hester, you are quite the carpenter! I am so impressed.

Your garden is growing again. I just adore those hedychiums on the left of the first pic on the left. Your vines and everything look so incredibly lush! Your place looks just beautiful. Great bromeliad too.

Hope those milkweed are attracting the butterflies. They look pretty in that bed.

Hester, I agree, your garden looks lovely. I am like you, with gardening taking most of my time. I love being out side with nature all around me. Except for the lubbers.
