Dealing with Rats in the Veggie Garden
Comments (13)http://www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com/ I think this place has better traps than the Havahart traps and at lower prices. Very professional. Spend some time going over them or talking to them and find what will work best for you. The havahart system of two openings that go down at an angle make for a smaller trap than the size indicates. Better is one door opening and the opposite door opens for baiting. my problem is usually ground hogs and racoons. But a smaller type should work well on rats and squirrels. good luck. No way will anything keep them away. You have to trap them out. Then dump the trap into water and drown them. A 30 gallon rubber maid trash barrel full of water should do the trick. Do not relocate rats around the state. That is not acceptable. Once you decide on the trap you want then you can search the internet for the best price. This place had the best prices for me. Here is a link that might be useful: traps...See MoreAre Black rat snakes good for a garden?
Comments (14)First of all, I live and let live. I make an exception if something is in my yard that will hurt my family. We have about 6 acres of land and if a snake is no threat then it is left alone. If it is poisonous and is within 30 feet of our house I then take care of it. I do not want my children to be bitten by a poisonous snake. We have numerous copperheads near our house. I do kill those. The black rat snake mimicked a rattler. It raised and shook it's tail and rustled the leaves making a rattler sound. I thought it was a rattler til I did a search and found out rattlers are not black. I then researched and discovered that a black rat snake mimics a rattler when threatened. Now that I now he is not a threat, we will coexist. I have numerous bluebirds that have their own nests in the bushes. ( no man made house) I am sad to say the snake has probably eaten their eggs. While I am sad he is probably eating my favorite birds, I have no issue with him unless he tries to bite one of us....See MoreCactus ID: Rat tail?
Comments (2)No, not an Aporophyllum or pendant cactus, IMO. Maybe a Haageocereus or some sort of non-pendulous Cleistocactus. Those South American columnars are so difficult to ID at this stage of their growing....See MoreCactus ID - Rat Tail?
Comments (3)Alex tbh it's hard to tell. My rat tail has thinner tails;). Your cactus has some similarities to the golden rat tail. You will know once it blooms for you they have beautiful flowers like most cactus....See Morelinda_leaf _z10a_southwest_fl
