I love their "million bells" or is it "super bells". Found some for $1 on the hospital racks. Time to go back. Those new shipments from a few weeks ago should be just about "near death" enough to show up.

Doubt you'll find any help on this forum....they are more likely to help you fill your cart than empty it :-)

The half dead rack is always my first stop! I look at each pot to see if there's a treasure there but always end up with something fun. That's where I found all of my black and blue salvia.

Just be careful buying orchids. I had client a few years ago pick up a few "bargain orchids" and they were infected with a virus. Wiped out her entire collection of orchids in two weeks. Sad

My butterfly garden just got 3 new additions from that rack and all they needed was a drink of water. Now I have a beautiful B/B salvia, guara and skullcap along with all my GW friends and swap plants residing happily in my renovated butterfly garden. LOVE that rack. (wish they would quit hiding it) lol.

No support here. . . my husband and I have that problem in the plant section AND inside the store. God bless Home Depot and Lowes.

I belong to the same club, just different chapter. I can't go into Lowes without stopping by their discounted tools, while my wife looks at their gardening section. If you should come up with a solution could you please pass it our way?

How to stop yourself, send the other half to the hardware store with the list of needed items, then you are not so tempted.

I actually used to have the problem quite bad and always spent way too much money at the big box stores but have really cut back on buying plants there since I have switched to growing mostly edible or useful plants in the past two years. Most of the stuff at the big box stores doesn't really fit the useful edible bill very well since I don't find their veggie selection all that inspiring anymore after growing some really cool stuff from seed.

I did not know there was a 50% off plant rack at Lowe's. Now it'll be hard to wait for my next trip there. Maybe I should just run up tomorrow and take a peek.

jellybobelly , you should! The sale racks are awesome :] Sometimes it is even better than 50%, and you can find great plants, especially bulbs and plants that are done blooming...Hard to sell those, but a gardener wont have a problem bringing them back to blooming!

Me too! Me too! I'm so bad I get upset if the rack isn't there. Had someone buy the whole rack ahead of me once. Oh what a let down.

Recently got a couple of nice salvia and what I call whirling butterfly.

I bet we've crossed paths at the Lowe's a thousand times, I love going there and then a hop over to HD, of course:)

Pat yourself on the back for buying on sale,that's what I'd say and 10 bucks is one Starbucks pitstop these days, so don't sweat it! Sounds like some treasures you have there!

I've got the same problem. My yard is mostly filled with clearance plants from Lowes. I make a beeline to the racks and rarely look at the others. So far this year I've got numerous angelonia, black/blue salvia, porterweed, petunias, cuphea, begonias, dianthus, ti plants draecana, impatients and the list goes on. The most I've paid for a plant is 1.50 and a perennial at that.
One lowes I go to only does 50% off but the other is usually .50-1.00 so I frequent that one very often. I get excited when I see a new shipment come in because I have been told by the workers that room has to be made for the fresh stuff so off to the hospital rack they go. I have even figured out when the manager is off(mondays) and that is usually not a good time to shop the racks and now even know his name. It's Tom.

I've got the sickness in a bad bad way.

The only way I can stop you is to try to get there first. ; )

By the way, I always make a point of making small chit-chatting with other people at the half off area in case it's a GW person.

Was there again today again. I got a hugh planter with Million Bells, a Salvia and a Plumbago all for $6. However I missed out on looking through four other racks that were on the way out the door as I arrived. Wish i could have gotten some of the Gerbera Daisys that were on the other racks.

Wish our HD had clearence racks. Wally world used to but not much any more.

I was so happy there to find calladium bulbs still available in the half-off bulbs bin that I bought twice as many. :)

That's where I go to, so it's possible we've already spoken. I spoke to someone the last time I was there, she asked me if there was anything good, I said I was still looking and I mentioned how sad it was that most of the plants just needed some water. I almost asked her if she posts on Garden Web!

I'm probably going to go sometime this weekend and get myself some stuff for my birthday.

I always check that rack at Walmart and there are always good buys. Hey, I'm an enabler!lol

Tomkaren, I think you're whirling butterflies are guara, one of the best .99 plants I ever bought at WM. Had it for years, cut it down every spring and it grows like a weed. I even yanked it out of the ground and shoved it somewhere else and it still grew.

Did you know you can negotiate that 50% off and get 75% off???
Go to the cashier and say something like "if I buy 5 or more orchids can I get a better deal?" I've done that twice and both times got 75% off. I've not had a problem with the orchids other than not knowing names. By the time they get there all the tags are long gone or wrong. I bought a dendrobium that had a used flower spike on it. But the tag in the pot claimed it was a nobile variety which wouldn't have had the flower spike, so I knew it was wrong.
