I think it would depend on the circumstances.Flowers are always nice. And a Costco chicken, well, can be good in certain instances. Thinking about someone and wanting to make them happy is very romantic and lovely.🤠

Not so sure it's a joke but I do think a rotisserie chicken is a lot better value than dieing flowers.

I'm not particularly amused either. I think if someone gave me a rotisserie chicken as a gift, I'd think they were "a mite tetched".

I love flowers...but at this stage in my life, a rotisserie chicken would mean 3 or so meals without me having to cook much (if I were the wife who was responsible for every stinkin' meal) a mini respite from cooking...and not having to be the one to plan the meal, shop for the ingredients, etc.

Having read and enjoyed your posts for years, I believe you can do just about anything you set your mind to doing. OK, maybe you shouldn't try taking out your own appendix should the need arise. But rooting a cutting? Pffft, you know you can do that. Maybe those here who always mention their credentials have led you to believe otherwise, but I believe in you.

A friend of my DH's actually did that...gave his wife a faucet for her bday because she complained the old one was leaking. I believe she threw it at him. Of course, that was a long time ago...long before their divorce...

My DH gave me a skillet for Christmas.

One of my favorite presents was a two burner cast iron pan for making pancakes. We had two growing teens and I could not keep up with them. Making two huge pancakes at a time worked.

I don’t see cut flowers as something that is dying nor a Costco chicken as not having to cook. Either can be a thoughtful gesture from someone who cares.

When my husband and I were first living together and working very different hours he would leave stuff in the fridge for my dinner just so I had something to eat when I got home. We usually ate meals alone at different hours. A ready meal was always welcome when you came home tired. Cut flowers were also nice.

I didn't find this terribly funny. It's humerous because the presumably romantic advice is so obtuse. That went right past my guys, leaving them waiting for a punch line.

I once answered a classified ad and bought a brand new set of Maytags for about half price. The seller said he'd given them to his wife for Christmas. She was not pleased. *Because* we accept the old saw that men are romantically obtuse, I believed him. (This was decades before I saw The Sopranos and learned about appliances that fell off trucks.)

Details are important. Let's say the gf lives in a state where there is no Costco and partner has a Costco chicken flown in because gf had read an article about Costco chickens and was curious.

On the other hand, let's say gf has asthma and is allergic to pollen. Partner leaves a huge bouquet on the dining room table.

This time, chicken trumps (if you will pardon the expression) flowers.

Patriciae, I think my husband would. My husband does not ”get dinner regardless” and leaving him dinner was not ”as per usual” never was and still isn’t. But he was very appreciative when I did. He knew I was thinking about him and I knew he was thinking about me. 💕 It worked for us. Almost 50 years later, I still adore him.

Flowers, jewellery, holidays and stuff like that are certainly wonderful. I love them all! But somebody thinking what I need in the moment is special.

And sometimes something sitting in the fridge, just for me, is it.

I considered explicating just for you Roxol because I did sense that your situation was the rare exception. But since I tend to be too wordy I did the short form. In the main was my point. At least the point about find out what your dear love wants and give that to them works.

As someone who buys cut flowers for myself all the time at Traders, I'd go for the chicken. I also buy plants there and should put blinders on as I go through the door. But my last flowers actually lasted one full month so well worth it. I always have a vase of flowers year-round. But I do love roast chicken and hate to cook so I'd pick the chicken.

I don't get the fascination with these chickens. You still have to make side dishes so you don't get a night off from cooking. Please bring home a pizza instead.

Our son's favorite quick meal while growing up: Roasted Chicken, Corn on Cob and Salad (with Ranch Dressing of course).

I'm with Lily, I get cut flowers from Trader Joe's all the time. I hate going into Costco or Sam's for just Roasted Chicken for dinner-so I pick the chicken too, which my husband would never think to do LOL I have him spoiled, but I don't care.
