More PNW been there, done that advice, lol. When things start to clear, be sure to watch your localized air quality index. Sometimes it would look pretty decent outside (at least compared to the worst smoky days), but often the quality was still very poor. Those high numbers can be really dangerous for health risks, esp. people with heart or lung problems already and sometimes you can't see the particulates. And sometimes my neighborhood would be much better or worse than one 8 miles away...depending on air currents and topography, I suspect, so don't just trust the closest city's numbers you see on the news.

It's gotten much worse....we're now in the purple zone, 250, very unhealthy.

What's so odd for us is usually when the northern Canadian air masses make it our way, it brings the clearest, freshest air...not this time.

That seems to be very wise advice Olychick. The weird yellow haze has lightened up, and yet the air quality has officially gotten worse. The Yankees cancelled their game tonight.

This is incredible. The smoke is literally rolling on the ground. My eyes and throat can feel it We still have that brownish orange haze.

At least the weather people and newscasters have something to talk about.

We've been through some days where our air quality was the worse is the world and it isn't pleasant. Our temps are up and our rainfall is low so there is now a total campfire ban for the province. People are getting nervous.

On the west coast by the US - Canada border we've only had a couple of days this year when we've been able to smell smoke and today is one of those days. There is a new fire on Vancouver Island which might be the culprit but we could smell smoke when running today. If it's still bad tomorrow we won't run.

We're apparently in the yellow here in Central KY. It's been raining here all day today, which we really need. I hope they put the fires out soon. I noticed the hazy skies up north of us when on a trip to Nebraska.

I was in NYC today. and it was unspeakable. I felt ashes hitting me in the face, and. now, at night, my eyes are burning. I showered as soon as I got home and threw my clothes into the washer too. Many shows were cancelled, the libraries closed early, and the zoos did too. The animals were brought indoors, Thank goodness. And it's supposed to be this way again tomorrow.

I can't help but keep checking the air quality numbers all day on my phone. 154 earlier today. 286 now at 9:30 pm.

Every time I go outside, I keep getting weirded out as it looks like hot summer humid haze, but it's actually chilly and dry....but smoky.

Seeing a red sun would make it seem apocalyptic, or like a Twilight Zone episode. I feel very sad for the Canadians, who are having an even worse experience. It is always depressing when homes and trees are destroyed.

This site has an interactive map. It looks like the worst air is from Philadelphia to D.C., especially D.C. There is also a bad patch northeast of Edmonton, Alberta, but most of Canada does not look that bad, compared to the U.S. NE from MA to Maryland, which I see as a good sign. Southern Michigan, especially Detroit, looks pretty bad also.

I don't know how the scale works, but it's amazing how much clearer it is today than yesterday pm even though we are still in the red zone. Much better than the purple!

It's been awful here in NE PA the past two days. Our number was 381 yesterday (Hazardous) and is down to 211 today (Very Unhealthy). I found the dim light and yellow haze unsettling, possibly because it's what we sometimes see if a severe thunderstorm is imminent.

Some areas might be getting a bit sold on furnace filters and box fans since that kind of DIY has been popping up popular recently. A second kind of DIY air filter for folks. This uses a bathroom fan, vacuum cleaner bag, and a five gallon bucket to house the fan and bag in. The bucket is not absolutely necessary, but it does help keep the unit nice and together.

So right now we are past the purple zone and into the maroon zone! 314 currently.

We're at 350 and Husband's golf was canceled. I awoke with a headache and eyes that ache so will be walking the stupid mall today. My daughter, who is in a yoga retreat in Mexico, called and gave me heck for hiking without a mask yesterday. The extreme droughts and the worse air quality ever here are a lot to deal with, especially after the deaths of my three pets in six weeks.

Oh you poor souls. I have so mich sympathy as I remember the red turning to purple and thinking it would never go down. Please get air purifiers if you can. If this goes on, you’ll be so glad. This can really damage your lungs and heart.

Depends on the air quality. Racing was cancelled for today because the air quality is bad. Weather shift through the weekend should bring some clearing and improvement of air quality.

We did get a brief shower today (1/10th") but it didn't do much to clear the air. Still it's not nearly as bad as it is for many of you up north of here.

• . It has been done across the US for years. But not in California now or Canada. This is my neighborhood. We rarely have forrest fires. Also the majority of forrest land in Ga. is privately owned. This is control bruning.

Today parts of PA...Philly and others had the dirtiest air on earth.

Worst air now is in Lansdale, PA, just north of Philadelphia. Air quality changes by the hour, however. It's gotten worse in Edmonton, Alberta.

Hopefully over the next few weeks the air will improve for all that are suffering the effects of this smoke. It may be a good idea to look into room air filters (there are room HEPA filters that work well) if one anticipates that there may be similar events in the future.

Today we're in the orange here. The sun is shining but the rest of the sky is just all white. Like total cloud cover. Weird.

Ronmin, controlled burning is a completely different animal. It's highly regulated and a permit process based entirely on weather. Any possible wind in the direction of a population and its cancelled. Only very occasionally do they go awry, too many people involved in their doing for many mistakes.

Much better here today near Philadelphia i can actually see normal clouds in the sky.

Finally, clearer skies in Ottawa, smoke smell gone too and a bit of rain was nice to see. But we do need more wet stuff!

Today in NYC the smell is gone, my view is back and the weather is a delightful 71 degrees. Most people have stopped wearing masks outside. Last Wednesday, I walked 14 blocks in the thick of it to get to my haircut appointment. The salon is located in Jimi Hendrix's old apartment. We talked about walking through yellow haze to get to Purple Haze.

Much Much better today here. No haze to speak of. ......We're back to our daily recommended amount of air pollution intake.

Chicago area is 'yellow', but NW Indiana and parts of Wisconsin are still 'orange'. We're promised rain Saturday night into Sunday. Long time no rain other than one 20 minute shower earlier this week. May was 2nd driest in history, and drought is continuing into June.

There's a wet spot in the lawn. When we called the irrigation company they said they aren't making appointments for repairs. I'm hoping our landscaper still know a guy who knows a guy.

We were yellow all day but the weather guy said tonight that Thursday morning we were above 400 and in the deep purple.
