Avidchef, Although this thread is about electric ranges, I have the same issue as you have, along with another issue in my 10 year old Profile gas range. I've been finding that my oven temps, long after stabilization times, are frequently, but not always 50 degrees lower than the setpoint. In addition, if I use the touch panel to raise the temp, many times the temp will not raise. I have to shut down the oven and restart with the new temp. I had a repair person here through my Home Warranty; he's going to replace the control panel and a temp sensor next week when the parts come in. He said because of the design of the range - the oven vents directly beneath the electronic control panel - and I often use temps above 500, it probably shortened the life of the control panel. Other than that, I have had no other issue with this range. It's been an absolute workhorse and for my co-pay of $95, I expect to have many more years of service out of it. Helene

Well I will give it a shot, the power doesn't need to be on for it to get fried during a thunderstorm. Sounds like the control got fried due to a voltage spike during the storm. Put your washer on a surge protector to avoid these types of issues in the future. If the repair man doesn't have the board in stock plan on a couple of weeks without the washer. I know you don't want to hear this but it's impossible to stock every component for every machine out there. The fact that you can't get it into diagnostic mode is definatly pointing towards a fried control board. It is a good thing that you have the extra warranty, control boards are expensive. And that's what I like to refer to as "True Colors". :P I could go through it point by point and argue each egregious misquote and inconsistency, but I think my original assessment that your temperament, as displayed on this thread, necessitates that you rent for any kind of peace of mind or happiness, is probably the best line to stick with at this point. I have no problem being blunt and opinionated. I've also noticed that people react with anger when you present them with a truth that they're not interested in hearing. Whatever. There are good places to live all over the world; and I think it's blind arrogance to assume that money buys it,(along with happiness) and honey, I am by no means poor or uneducated-ask the government, who's really enjoying gobbling up my hard earned money, and the loan people, who are quite happy with the number of decades I went to school. I do hope you find some happiness with your home search, but I think (and of course we all know this is MY opinion) you need to find a little zen in your life.

If you hired a general contractor, your contract is with them, and you should be conferring with them regarding questions or concerns about any aspect of your project. The exception would be in the event you have contracted directly with others to perform some portion of the work. HVAC systems need to be designed and specified. This is best done in the design phase as construction details (e.g., type and thickness of insulation; type and performance of windows and doors, home's orientation, etc.) affect the HVAC. You might, for example, find it more economic (and comfortable) to add insulation and reduce the size of your heating and air conditioning system, or to opt for better performing windows and doors to reduce heating and cooling requirements. Once the home is under construction, it's more difficult to make those choices. If you hired a design professional, I submit that the design of the HVAC system should have been included in the scope of their work unless specifically excluded for some darn good reason. If they don't have the expertise needed, they can hire a third party, but it needs to get done as part of a comprehensive design effort--not construction.
