Help me finish formal living and dining rooms (on a budget)
Comments (13)@betsy Cain I tend to have a traditional/transitional style. They don’t have to be super formal rooms, as the rest of the house has a more relaxed feel, and of course the farmhouse style dining table isn’t “formal”. for now, I think the chaise needs to stay in this room. The only other place it could go is the also empty sun room and I don’t really think it fits there Any better. My husband actually likes the thing and enjoys laying on occasionally. Additionally I have no other furniture to put In its place! We moved into this house last fall and added about 1500-1800 sq ft of “growing space” so we knew we’d have to furnish slowly and with some hand me downs....See MoreHelp me finish dining room please!
Comments (32)Update over 1.5 years later!!! The only change so far is the 2 new canvases from Pier One. We still have not used the room at all since not finished. The goal is to get it done by the end of this year or at least have a plan by then. At minimum, need new chandelier, chairs reupholstered, custom curtains/drapes, and a server/buffet to replace that table with the photos (photos only temporarily there). Unsure what kind to get....as you can see the wood of the table and hutch is dark with little black spots. Will only order from a place where we can see the piece .... such as Ethan Allen, Arhaus, etc or may do something custom from one of the numerous furniture stores in Ohio Amish country...just unsure what to get and whether to try to match the existing pieces or not. We may also end up painting the walls and really would love to ditch those ugly chairs but want to keep the peace with my mother lol! Suggestions? Thanks!...See MorePlease help finish dining room
Comments (34)I put a black and white abstract artwork on that wall to provide more contrast and added a chair next to the bar to balance it a bit. I am now playing around with the tablescape. I may incorporate some red in with the silver and gold on the table. I’m also considering adding some peep and stick grass cloth wallpaper behind the abstract art in either light grey or tan or beige/gold. Thoughts?...See MoreIT’S IN THE DETAILS!!
Comments (30)George yes! The room is very difficult a couple walls at different angles which is why the table is not perfectly straight! I wasn’t sure which wall to follow!!! That’s the way Florida houses are built with the openings and cubbies (dust collectors) in the walls? Very different for me! If I want some contrast between floor and walls, we would have to paint. Replacing the floor would be far to costly and most of the house has that ceramic tile throughout. (Except for bedrooms). Also.... I cannot put a rug under the table. If I get the size I’m suppose to get it obstructs the walkway from the front door to the living area. And it doesn’t matter which way I put the table, I had it the other way and that was even more in the way. As you said, very difficult.........See MoreMetamorphosed
