Comments (9)Hi Grace -- Beautiful room -- love the drama of the rich wall color, so awesome for a DR, and the painting definitely draws me in. Could you share some visuals of your "likes"? Do you have a budget in mind for lights and chairs? I think that might get more responses -- while you've kindly provided some very loose boundaries, I still think this room could go about a million different directions. I find one person's "transitional" and "modern" is another's horror show, ha! I like your idea of mimicking the round elements of your table legs, which will also play off the tree trunk shape. So I'll start off without regard to budget or size -- just so there's something for you to react to on the love/hate scale! You'll see my love of shimmer and shine -- esp at night! -- coming into play. To play on the natural element I've included shells since they have an innate elegance yet tend to stay on the informal side. I'm being very bad and answering a Q you didn't ask -- because like Elle I'd love to see a set of table lamps flanking that gorgeous painting! The 2nd lamp draws in the tones of your floor and table colors. Elle and I differ in that I think the current frame may be a fine direction -- the frame blends with the wall but that drives the eye straight to the visual. Although I like her concept for alt-framing. I would probably get your elements in place and then evaluate the frame. Again, so much of this is personal taste!...See MoreHelp me finish dining room please!
Comments (32)Update over 1.5 years later!!! The only change so far is the 2 new canvases from Pier One. We still have not used the room at all since not finished. The goal is to get it done by the end of this year or at least have a plan by then. At minimum, need new chandelier, chairs reupholstered, custom curtains/drapes, and a server/buffet to replace that table with the photos (photos only temporarily there). Unsure what kind to get....as you can see the wood of the table and hutch is dark with little black spots. Will only order from a place where we can see the piece .... such as Ethan Allen, Arhaus, etc or may do something custom from one of the numerous furniture stores in Ohio Amish country...just unsure what to get and whether to try to match the existing pieces or not. We may also end up painting the walls and really would love to ditch those ugly chairs but want to keep the peace with my mother lol! Suggestions? Thanks!...See MoreHelp me finish my dining space please?
Comments (35)Rachel - we weren't able to keep the floors. The house has in-floor radiant heating throughout, not very a good combo with solid wood. The wood they'd installed looked pretty good in the pictures but in person it was very gappy and not in great shape. We left it in the bedrooms but replaced the floor in the living areas to be consistent throughout...See MoreDining room isn’t finished. Need help balancing room.
Comments (4)Try turning the rug and table perpendicular to the window. Lower the chandelier to 32" over table top. The window treatment with the dark bottom is what is making the room look unblanced. Too much dark at eye level. Then consider a tall rectangular piece of art for he bare wall. Try a triptych. These are from greatbicanvas. Frame in gold so all works with the shade of the light, https://www.fotoviva.co.uk/news/interior-design-tips/a-guide-to-hanging-split-canvas-prints/...See MoreCarol Jean
