Entryway addition

Hi, we bought this property 2 years ago. We live in a cold city and winters can be brutal. I wanted to bumb out my front entry door way with an addition. At first we thought 2 floors with office space upstairs but the cost was very high. So we opted for just 1 floor. We need to change our mansard roof. Maybe make the shingles lighter color in the greige tones. But don't know how to do an addition without it looking as a add on. I want it too look part of the house. The front windows all need to be changed. I can go 9' across before touching my bay window and I can come up untill 15' to be flush with garage facade. I'm very visual so would like examples or simple drawings to help!

Not sure what you are asking, but I would not recommend an addition to the entry area based on the exterior photo. It's a very pleasing design as-is.

Consider changing door to large single + sidelights (I hate double doors).

Thanks for your message. We have 5 kids living at this house, sometimes all during the same time.. The entry walks into the house. So you can emagine the number of shoes are layed around. So a closed of vestibule would be necessary!

3 x 3 should be good far about 5 years ... ignore them... move the azalea in a few years ... lol ken ps: height is a given ... diameter is limited only by the decades .... if you leave it there for 20 years ... it will be the same height .. and the crown might be 2 or 3 feet across .. and the leaf width end to end might be 5 to 6 feet ... you just have to wait 17 more years ... and then it will crown rot from the center one year.. and you will have to start over .... lol .... find something else to worry about ... IMHO ....

The best place for the fan is out of the way, centrally located as best as possible and not to close to rec areas that you tend to spend time, like watching TV. DonÂt worry so much about being at highest point, these work by drawing air from a source. So in other words what ever windows you have open will get the benefits in those rooms. When sizing or deciding if you need two, just use the manufacturerÂs recommendations. The only time I know of two fans being used though is in large ranch houses or homes with in-law apartments.

I've never seen an attached garage that wasn't accessible from inside, so I suspect the house has been remodeled and a door to the garage closed off. Whether or not that's the case, it might be easier to get interior access to the garage by working within the house. If it turns out you do need to build a small vestibule, keep it simple. It's easy to think about soaring gables and sweeping eave extensions, but they don't make financial sense. The existing roof over the front door begins under the third row of siding down from the soffit above it. If it began under the first row, it would extend twice as far. That's enough to let you easily build a 6 x 6 vestibule, maybe 7 x 7 with a little tweaking. No major changes to the roof. The same simple gutter configuration.

Whats the garage entry like?

Garage entry is double door.. We have a side door to the house but it leads to an outdoor living area. Great during the summer . Not appropriate, especially during winter. Snow is not shoveled.
