I would love to have a division of the goatsbeard. I am not good at dividing plants normally (except daylilies), I always feel like IâÂÂm mutilating them: but if itâÂÂs out of the ground anyway, IâÂÂll look and see if there is enough there to divide in half. I wanted one on the opposite side of the (symmetrical, more or less) bed anyway. I think since IâÂÂd like another, that tips the scale in favor of moving the goatsbeard. Troves of trilliumsâ¦.I assume you did not have to cut back the leaves, since you moved it in spring? IâÂÂm just not sure how IâÂÂd move it in the fall if I kept all the stems intact. When I want to move some tall plants, like asters, I just chop them off halfway. They never miss a beat. But I donâÂÂt know enough about goatsbeard. IâÂÂd say IâÂÂll wait til next spring, but this last spring I DID plan to move it, and the season got away from me and soon it was too big. Yes, I used KenâÂÂs hosta moving tips a few years ago! I was having a front patio installed in late July. It was a very hot July, too. My husband thought it looked like too much trouble to do. But the patio installation guys were definitely taking notes. They were moved to a holding bed, then moved back to the front yard again a month later. They took the move well.

The Hosta Library says that 'H. Krossa Regal' can reach 36" tall by 70". I have both K.R and R.S. side by side and they are pretty close to that size.I have had them in that spot for at least 4 years and they were at least a year old when planted. I have some small Hostas in front of them that I planted last year I put them about 2 feet in front so they would understory . With those growing and the Krossa growing as well I think they will join up this year. I love to let the big ones cascade over them. I think it makes a full and natural look. With K.R. you can't go wrong because IMHO they blend well with any other Hosta. Denny

Mary, I'm not very talented in groupings either. I've moved a lot around. Sometimes, they look great for me when their in their pots and then when they're planted in the ground, I don't like them. However, I do try to build my gardens using the following techniques: Anchor the area with a big one to give the eye a focal point, then build a border that will take the eye around the garden. Then, I try to brdige the two by layering the area with color and texture. It's the same technique that I use when decorating my home. My experience with Orange Marmalade and Great Arrival is that they don't take the sun well, so I'd let some of your larger hostas give them some shade.

Gloria, The thing that was mentioned that may be confusing is the expression, "immature status". Another expression for the same thing is "juvenile leaves". Sometimes when you have a new plant or one that has had some trauma (bugs, disease, divided) in some way, it will put out little leaves. They are often shaped differently than the mature plant and in the case of contrasting edges, the edges will be thinner. It's like they went back to being babies. You just have to give them time to mature again, which takes a couple of years. Unless you accidently stuck another hosta there, it will be KR. It's not permanently changed. It's just set back.
