Something new-ish under the sun for small laundry rooms?

So looks like LG has a full size unitized WD similar to the one Speed Queen has long had on the market. Nicely sized, but the depth exceeds that of Speed Queen’s setup. https://www.lg.com/us/washer-dryer-combos/lg-wkex200hwa-washtower

I’ve been looking at this unit. The capacity is a bit bigger than the Speed Queen. SQ 3.5/7.0 vs LG 4.5/7.4. I’m trying to see if the SQ has a steam option.

Annette, SQ does not have a steam option. SQ does not have an internal heater. :(

I love your windows. In fact, your whole dining room makes me smile. How about doing Gallery Glass on your windows? I just sent a picture of my bathroom window I did to the white, white bathroom thread. Here is the top of the one I did for my son's sidelight window: Or if you like you can just make your own GG decals on cling like this (sorry this is a bad pic) one I made to keep folks from walking through my sliding glass door window: The hummingbird was super easy, fast and fun. I used the paints from windowbutterflies.com to do that one. The gal has a little video on her web site to teach you how to do it, and she's very sweet on the phone. I used the Gallery Glass from Michaels on the the bath window, and part clings and part GG on my son's window. The GG paints are best for a vertical surface; the others are best for working horizontally. Or if you'd like to sew yourself some toppers here's a link for you. marcolo, the new window can go anywhere and really isn't that related to framing a garden view. my first priority is the functioning of the space. I am giving myself 42" of work space between the range and cooktop - is this not a decent amount? I agree that this is where most food prep takes place and worked to make the most space here as possible. Not sure what i could do to improve on this. Any ideas? The window doesn't have to go there. Currently it is to the left of where I am showing it on this plan. BUT that location is even worse for work space (at least if i am to line my sink up under the window which would be my preference). The Kohler 45" stages sink I think would help my situation. I wash an enormous amount of fresh produce and fruit and think that this would be happening more to the right since the drain board would be to the right (taking a bit of space from the magic corner unit that won't be used anyway). Currently my dishwasher is where the magic corner door will be. I absolutely hate it in this spot. I definitely want it right next to my sink. any thoughts for improving are appreciated

Nearly every single plant out there and the greenhouse furnace failed this morning. It was only 30°f outdoors here this morning but everything was white when I looked out the kitchen window at 4 AM. It was freezing fog ... the greenhouse was 41°. It was probably just my imagination but the tomato seedlings looked a little purple after the morning sun burnt through the fog ... everything else seemed fine. The furnace is one like might be installed under the ceiling in a garage. It works really well but I had to try restarting it with turning the thermostat off and on - fail. Turned power off at the breaker box ... back on ... it starts! I think my 2 bathroom heaters would work but, soon, I will need one or both for the hoop houses! The furnace sits unused for 10 months out of the year. It wouldn't start at all about 8 or 10 years ago and cost me $300 in repair work. At nearly 20 years of age, maybe it should be replaced. Steve

Everyone here loves Miele and Speed Queen. But only SQ comes in top load. I would wait and see how they handle pinky's warranty claim, though! And that is a BIG laundry room to me! LOL. Why don't you tell us what you use the room for? Do you need hanging space? Do you need a huge soaking sink? Or will at a small one do? Do you need to be able to roll a cart under the counters? For my purposes, I'd run an L-shaped counter along the right and back walls. If you must have top load, I think I'd center them on that long wall. In my small laundry room, I bought the SQ stack which has a tiny footprint and does have a nice soak function even though it is a FL. It makes the room seem almost spacious, and gives me lots of counter space for sort and fold.

Annette: From recent research, I can tell you that SQ does not offer any steam options on its unitized SF7 laundry center/stack nor on its other residential washers or dryers.

MizLizzie: Maybe you've already seen this, but the only user write-up on the new LG tower that I've run across was this one at AutomaticWasher: https://www.automaticwasher.org/cgi-bin/TD/TD-VIEWTHREADM.cgi?84797 The owner has posted some comments about it in other threads but I can't find the references at the moment.

My LG WashTower (wkex200hba) was delivered this morning & installed. Have done 4 'loads' for a household of 1, me.

2010 Frigidaire sortof died as the door lock won't lock; dismantling & cleaning the contacts gave no results as probably due to the recent storm as I did hear the units turn on in the middle of the night.

No 24 inchers in stock at Home Depot; the single unit Frigidaire was 78 in which is a smidgen taller to get thru the laundry closet door frame even tho the door had been removed.

The washer is a bit louder washing than the 2010 Affinity; reason is that there is a longer drop for stuff being washed; relatively silent at high spin. Found that one still had to cycle thru temp selections & options even tho the panel is a "touch panel". Problem with the dryer may be pilot error as could not get out of "hot" mode" in the normal cycle where I had changed the default of "medium high". Tried the bedding mode with its default of medium high & saw a problem of the timer went back up after half-way thru; paused & felt the towels which were dry & cancelled the drying.

Will need to go thru more washing/drying to see what fits with me. Must remember to empty or the dryer pump filter each month/week.

Won't be able to provide more feedback as am happy with the tower unit & I don't do the "fancy" stuff which can be modified with more settings.
