Craft fair - nothing new under the sun
Comments (15)Me too, Pattico. I got interested in Country decorating and crafts when I went to a little restaurant in the mountains. It was so warm and "homey" with gingham curtains and containers of big sunflowers. They had these cute signs like a big pig shape with words like "Bacon 25 cents" across the front of it. I just fell in love with it all. And it was what got me wanting to learn to paint! Now I still want to paint, but since the cutouts are pretty much "out", I mostly do yard signs or holiday items. I also loved it because I now had a way to tie all my mismatched furniture together. It looked good with all the country items like baskets of sunflowers, crochet afghans, and rag rugs! I had so much fun creating wood items, rag wreaths, collecting little figurines, and country fabrics. I remember making a big arrangement on the wall behind my couch with all kinds of country items. It was so fun! I still have a few of those things, but now I have more lace and roses around, sorta Countrycottage/Victorian I guess--and it seems even that look is past-tense as well. Like you, I am a bit concerned about if we ever go to sell this place--will need to clear out a bunch of stuff, paint and pare down for the Pottery Barn look I suppose! ;o) Luvs...See MoreTwo chickens and a dead brain...
Comments (7)No reason you couldn't sub a whole, cut up chicken for the breasts in these recipes. French Farmhouse Garlic Chicken 4 small boneless, skinless chicken breast halves 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper 1 T cooking oil 40 small cloves unpeeled garlic 1/2 c dry white wine (or chicken broth) 1 T lemon juice 1 tsp dried basil 1/2 tsp dried oregano 4 T all purpose flour 2 T dry white wine (or chicken broth) Rinse chicken, pat dry. Season with salt & pepper. In 10 inch skillet, heat oil over medium high heat. Add chicken and garlic cloves. Cook chicken 2-3 minutes on each sideor until golden, turning once. Slowly add 1/2 c wine, then the second 1/2 cup wine, lemon juice, basil and oregano. Cover and simmer 6-8 minutes or until chicken is tender and no longer pink. Using a slotted spoon, transfer chicken and garlic to warm serving platter; keep warm. In small bowl, stir together flour and 2T wine. Stir into pan juices. Bring to a boil, cook and stir 1 minute more. Spoon over chicken, serve with mashed potatoes or rice. Makes 4 servings. Quick Chicken Cacciatore From "Eat and Stay Slim" cookbook 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves 1 7\-1/2 oz can diced tomatoes, undrained 3/4 c sliced fresh mushrooms 1/4 c chopped onion 1/4 c chopped green pepper 3 T dry red wine 1 clove garlic, minced 1 tsp dried oregano 1/4 tsp salt Dash pepper 1 T cold water 2 tsp cornstarch Rinse chicken, pat dry. In a medium skillet combine tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, green pepper, wine garlic, oregano, salt and pepper; place chicken on top of vegetables. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 20 minutes or until chicken is tender and no longer pink. Transfer chicken to serving platter, keep warm. Stir together water and cornstarch; stir into skillet mixture. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly. Cook and stir 2 minutes more; spoon sauce over chicken. Makes 4 servings My notes: this is really good served over rotini or penne pasta! I make this one with chicken quite often, too. Turkey Marsala 1lb turkey breast 2T butter 3T flour 2tsp instant chicken boullion 1/4tsp garlic powder 1c water 1/2c dry Marsala wine 1c sliced fresh mushrooms Melt butter in skillet over medium heat. Brown the turkey, turning once. Place turkey on serving platter, cover to keep warm. Combine flour, boullion and garlic powder in bowl. Gradually stir in water and wine. Add to skillet and cook over medium heat 5 minutes, stirring constantly until thickened. Add mushrooms and heat one minute more. Pour half of sauce over turkey, pass remaining sauce. 4 servings. Comments (2)Could any of these cabinets (I'm presuming they are base cabinets) be converted to drawer units so they move out and not over?...See MoreSomething new-ish under the sun for small laundry rooms?
Comments (4)My LG WashTower (wkex200hba) was delivered this morning & installed. Have done 4 'loads' for a household of 1, me. 2010 Frigidaire sortof died as the door lock won't lock; dismantling & cleaning the contacts gave no results as probably due to the recent storm as I did hear the units turn on in the middle of the night. No 24 inchers in stock at Home Depot; the single unit Frigidaire was 78 in which is a smidgen taller to get thru the laundry closet door frame even tho the door had been removed. The washer is a bit louder washing than the 2010 Affinity; reason is that there is a longer drop for stuff being washed; relatively silent at high spin. Found that one still had to cycle thru temp selections & options even tho the panel is a "touch panel". Problem with the dryer may be pilot error as could not get out of "hot" mode" in the normal cycle where I had changed the default of "medium high". Tried the bedding mode with its default of medium high & saw a problem of the timer went back up after half-way thru; paused & felt the towels which were dry & cancelled the drying. Will need to go thru more washing/drying to see what fits with me. Must remember to empty or the dryer pump filter each month/week. Won't be able to provide more feedback as am happy with the tower unit & I don't do the "fancy" stuff which can be modified with more settings....See MoreZachS. z5 Platteville, Colorado
