White Dove for fireplace trim?
Getting new fireplace. Looking to paint new mantel and surround in dove white. Walls are Dufferin Terrace. Room faces south With lots of trees in back. Tiles will be greys, Taupes, creams, as photo kind of shows. Thanks.

Comments (6)I said on another post that i think Cloud White is highy underrated. I find it to be milky, but not creamy. More of a warmer white, not too stark, but not yellowish. They probably wiuld bith work with the colors you selected. I have cloud white with SW Contented and BM Carrington Beige and it works well with both. To my eye, white dove looks more creamy (yellow) in samples than it does in pics of people's cabinets. BM also lists them as coordinating colors. Your best bet is peobably to get large paped samples or sample pots of both to look at in the space once the floors are installed and cabinets are installed. Comments (23)I haven't seen it in person.... only in photos and blogs. but I think your best best is to just paint the walls in simply white eggshell....bc next to the simply white trim in satin or semi-gloss, they will look good. Comments (7)OK I will tell you that until you know what your countertops will be, picking color for your cabinets is going to be very tricky. As to BM Simply White for trim, that is in the Yellow Hue family, and it has a Chroma of .5 which means it has very little color in it; and it has an LRV (light reflective value) of 90. 100 is highest reflective number so that will reflect a lot of light. Nice for trim, and I like "satin" for the finish. Now for wall color. BM White Dove has a Chroma of .58 and an LRV of 83. We like more separation of Chroma (at least .20) and this is way too close. I don't think that will work. So you are in a tricky spot not knowing some key variables such as countertop colors. I think if you want light colors, I would do either of these two colors, but use different "finishes". It will vary from room to room due to light conditions. Since your carpet is tan, and your flooring is dark brown, I think I would lean toward the BM White Dove since it has a bit more warmth to it than Simply White. SW Alabaster has nice lightness and many have used it for both trim and walls, etc. Use Satin finish for your trim, flat or matte for walls and ceiling....See Moreout of the can white trim with White dove walls?
Comments (7)If you are wanting a trim colour which appears more crisp next to White Dove, you need to be looking for a White which has less Chroma by at least 0.2, that’s not too close but not too far away either. I'd also remove the dated gold insert. do you really need it? if so, use the heat proof matte black rustoleum spray and cover it.
I'd like the tile to go all the way up, and maybe a wood beam mantle across the front.

3 years agoSorry that one picture got cut off. With your wall color I would go whiter and lighter. Not beige. Then if you change wall color down the road, you will have more options.

window coverings?
any art that goes on the wall?
Is that gray wall color staying? it might be the photo, but it appears to lean a little on the lavender side of gray.
So, when picking a tile, you want to consider all of that since it will become a permanent fixture in your decor ideas.
This tile is nice. but just keep in mind that when it all goes up, it's a busy pattern. So if everything else in your room is solid colors, it will work. if you plan on having a lot of patterns and movement w/your other decor, this tile may be a bit too much.
one option is to do a skim coat and go very neutral
Or, pick a natural stone in a somewhat solid color. doing something like this will work with just about any type of furniture or color
do a smaller tile. I love the look of this one
a more modern, 12x24 tile. a vein cut natural stone would give you this look
tiling just the surround, and doing a type of trim or ship lap above it.
how high up does the ceiling go?were you planning on tile all the way? stopping part way and doing art or something else?
are you open to diff types of tile?

Flo, her corner wall is very flat. if she wanted to do a corner fireplace like your last picture, they'd have to incorporate the adjoining walls in order to get that 'corner shelf'.

3 years agoWow! Thank you so much! Wall is Dufferin Terrace. Hope to keep it. Cream leather sofa, chocolate Small recliner and this striped chair. Will get area rug later. Bench is gone. Will get new coffee table. Will ask about that later! Picture won’t syay. have this picture which I want to use. Maybe over sofa if not on fireplace wall. No tv in room.
