Yes. Decorator's White works with White Dove.

Because Decorator's White has a Chroma of 0.20 and White Dove has a Chroma of 1.00.

For different colors of white to work together, there has to be a difference in Chroma of at least 20 (ish).

The difference in Chroma of at least 20 (ish) ensures that neither color white will make the other look dingy or dirty.

oh my gosh! thank you so much! I am SO not good at this. :) Lori, what do you think of Decorators White? I have it upstairs on all the trim and doors....just newly painted. Should I continue it down on the Main Floor....? I chose it in hopes it works with warm and cool paint colors but I'm seeing on Houzz everyone is using White Dove and I'm wondering how I could transition the trim on the Main floor to White Dove in the other rooms. If you think Decorators White is a little flexible and not too stark, I'll keep it. My cabinets are going to be a bright white with a hale navy island. Satin brass hardware and the Newport Brass kitchen faucet will be satin brass too.

It will. If you look where it plots out on The Color Strategist Color Wheel, you can see how it's right at the beginning of the Green-Yellow hue family (warm), end of the Yellow hue family (cool). It's perceptibly (which means how it looks) right on the cusp of warm and cool. Which means it's rather balanced in terms of temperature and could easily go either way.

Hi Lori, I have another question if you don't mind. With where the Decorators White is on the Color wheel, being in between warm and cool....does that mean I can use warm or cool colors with it? I have Silver Chain in my upstairs hallway and down the stairs, but I saturated it 75%. I wanted a very light gray with little undertones bc the lighting isn't great and our ceilings are only 8'6. So it's not a grand stairway. I'm thinking of either just going with Silver Chain in it's original color in my dining room, which has a higher ceiling, or going a little warmer like Stonington or Wickham, but I'm not sure if I can transition into warmer with Decorators White trim and with the lighter version of silver chain in the front hall and near the stairs.

Lori, when I use Decorators White trim, bc it seems brighter or whiter than say, Simply White, is it going to pull more yellows from a color, or will it pull out the cooler colors? Also, if I paint a room a color like Newburyport Blue, do I choose an accent color that is opposite of it on the color wheel or next to it? Maybe it's easier if I just know what NOT to do.

I would not expect it to. But depends on the light and the floor. Have to test it to see what it looks like in your space.

In general, All colors of white do the same thing. White overpowers color swatches and makes them appear more grayed down, not so bright and intense.

Which is why you should never compare color against a white background.

Well, I don't do the undertones thing. So I can't help you there.

What I can tell you is Silver Chain is a very low chroma, near neutral and belongs to the Yellow Hue Family.

In comparison to other colors in its hue family and in context of a color system of a couple thousand colors, it's a cool near neutral.

yes I did! I have it in my bathroom. So not a huge space but it works well. but just so you know the dove white looks much creamier next to the bright decorators white. They compliment each other well, but just want you to know that.

I’m so glad I found this post! I wanted to paint my built-in bookshelves (on either side of my fireplace) dove white but my trim is decorators white. Do you think that would work?

I have BM Simply white on all my trim on the main floor and want to carry it up stairs to a S and E facing master suite. I’d like the wall color to be a warm white with a slight contrast to the Simply White trim. Suggestions? Thanks so much.

Tina, yes, it will work.... but curious as to why you wouldn't keep the built in's all Decorators White. I did my built-ins all in Decorators White and I can try post a pic for you if that would be helpful.

Julie, paint a poster board in Chantilly Lace and see how you like it with the Simply White.... I think it would be beautiful. OR, keep the walls Simply White, bc the walls in an eggshell finish in Simply White next to the Simply White trim will still look great but still a contrast bc the finishes will be different.

Thank you. I ordered Samplize samples in Linen White, Mayonnaise, Navajo White and SW Creamy but they all have a bit more contrast than I’m looking for.

So Julie, try the Simply White in eggshell. It will be beautiful. There will only be a subtle difference. Or just the Chantilly. Gorgeous!

Chantilly lace is considered a “cool white.”. Have you seen it paired with Simply White, a “warm white” trim? I’m becoming color blind looking at white paints!

I haven't seen it in person.... only in photos and blogs. but I think your best best is to just paint the walls in simply white eggshell....bc next to the simply white trim in satin or semi-gloss, they will look good. It sounds like you want a subtle difference in whites...and just the finish alone will give you a subtle difference bc of the sheen and how they reflect light.
