please help arrange my bedroom

i have recent gotten a new bed and rearranged my room and i hate it. ive taken down all my posters and tapestry’s and this is what i have left. i hate it and i have no idea how to rearrange it. i’m open to buying more things but really i have no idea what to do!! i have a nice big room but i just don’t feel comfortable in it. please give any advice you can.

things i don’t like:

the bed placement

the bed

the colors

it has no personality

everything looks out of place

things i have right now:

a queen bed

a clothes dresser

a chair

a armchair

a wall built-in closet

a small sock and underwear drawer

a laundry bin

a bed-side desk

a ugly carpet

and a small trashcan

PS: i’m cleaning out my drawers that’s y it’s so messy

PSS: this isn’t how its usually how it looks. i’m currently moving things around

How about we break this down to a manageable size/

Are you keeping all of the items in your room and just want to rearrange?

What colors do you hate, the wall color, the bedding, the drapes, or the furniture?

How many people sleep in this room? Male or Female? Approximate age?

While we're at it, please measure the wall from the door to the corner. Then the entire wall that the window is on. The short wall the chest and the chair are. And last, but not least, the length and the depth of the alcove behind the desk.

The more info you provide, the easier it becomes for people to offer suggestions. Looking forward to an update from you.

omg, I just got so happy with my bedroom and today the demo on the adjoining master bath began and it has all gone to hell so fast! I know it will all be worth it but holy cow, what an ungodly mess. The DUST, the dust!! I'm going to head out and buy five--ten more of those huge thin plastic drop cloths tomorrow first thing just to protect furniture in other rooms from all the dust. I doubt I could make those shades, but perhaps I will try... my mom is visiting this week and she is an absolute genius with a sewing machine. Maybe I'll see if she is game.:)

I feel for you- our bedrooms are somewhat odd in that they can only be arranged in certain ways, due to doors, windows, etc. It almost feels like the room dictates what you have to do with it :( I've made a point of just working with the most practical layout. How much "closet stuff" do you have? Clothes and other items that you would want to store in an enclosure. I have to agree with annkh_nd that you would just be moving the storage around with the bed in the closet. It also looks like by moving the bed into the closet you lose your nightstands? Could you put a dresser or other chest of drawers in one side of the closet? Then hang short stuff over the drawer unit in the closet, longer stuff on the other side? How about a small storage unit of some kind on either side of the door off the foot of the bed? Would you have enough room at the foot of the bed if you were to put other pieces there? How about storage under the bed? Either in a platform that has drawers/cabinets in it, or in the form of under bed boxes? When DH and I lived in a small rental unit, we ended up putting our full sized bed against one of the walls. I didn't mind sleeping between DH and the wall, and generally got up after he did at that time. If I got up earlier, I would just go off the foot of the bed. Personally, I'd prefer the bed against the wall, to only having a narrow foot or so on the side that felt like a chasm.

Definitely no room to angle in a cabinet and we're about 2 feet short to move the bed to any other wall. The shoe cabinet could go into a closet and even though it would take up floor space, we could fit more shoes in there that way. The large art piece has lived above the bed in another house and looks great but we were planning on hanging sconces above the bed and that would result in the canvas hanging too high. Will probably take them back- the bedside tables we're going to order are 24" wide so have room for table lamps. I think I'll move the smaller chest where everyone advises but it creates a new issue- too much wall space with just the chest and chair. I suppose I could put a small round table next to it? I have a lovely painting that has always loved above my dresser but would have looked terrible with the two chests together. The cats are going to be crushed after we've unpacked. They're loving all the boxes!

When arranging furniture in a room, we can't really ignore measurements. ;-) If you have any graph paper, could you attempt a scale drawing of your room and furniture and play around on paper to see what works? Can you share actual pictures of the room so we can a better feel of the space? Looking at these renderings, I'd suggest placing the bed against the wall where the Vittsjo shelf is but is that too tight because of the angled wall? Otherwise, have you thought of placing the bed with the headboard against the window? You'd dress the window accordingly. First, figure out the optimal spot for the bed, then add the essential elements to the room.

Rotate the bed 90 degrees counterclockwise and leave it on that wall, with plenty of clearance for the door to open. Put the bedside table on the left side of the bed. Do you really need that desk? What are you using it for? What do you use the armchair for? If you have no reason to sit in the armchair and don’t need the desk, Consider getting another small dresser or armoire for that spot. Get a closet organizer and also put the hamper in the closet. See why another small dresser could come in handy? Kudos to you for clearing out your clothing. Every one should purge yearly. Really think about whether or not you need that desk, and the chairs. You have limited space, and should not be wasting floor space on furniture that is not being used frequently. Overall it’s a really nice room and I bet that if you clear stuff out and keep posting, you will get fabulous suggestions and end up with a room you love!

Step by step:
1. Put the bed on the other wall so it faces the desk area and put the chest of drawers against the wall( of the window) so it’s facing door leaving walking space between that and bed. On chest of drawers put either vase of flowers, picture frames or tray of perfumes and flickering remote control candles- as I did.
2. Put side table drawers on other side of bed. Put lamp on this table and photo frame or any decor you like. I put decorative tissue box on mine and a vase of flowers.
3. Put desk on wall where chest of drawers were and at side of that -closest to the inbuilt closet -place your laundry basket.
4. In nook area where desk was; make it into a cozy reading nook - add the armchair at angle, small 3 tier bookshelf and wall art. Add round rug and small round coffee table. It will look soooo Cozy. You have a nice room!
5. Add rug at end of the bed and add throw over the headboard to add some soft furnishing decor and a couple of theme cushions with the pillows. Add wall ar or picture frame on wall above the bed,
When anyone enters the room, they will see a nice bed and tray of perfumes on chest of drawers, it will look nice.

These are the things I would change:

1. Consider leaving the bed where it is and getting a different headboard and/or comforter. I love opening a door to the bedroom and immediately seeing a bed facing me. Makes it more inviting and cozy--check out any movie or show with a bedroom and you'll notice most of them do the same thing. You don't want to be blocked by a bed as soon as you walk in the room either, so keeping it on the far wall allows more accessibility.

2. Anyone who knows me knows I hate, hate HATE tall dressers. Consider getting a lower and wider one that has a mirror on top to double as a vanity. mirror makes the room look bigger and its a nice work surface at a nice height for make up or hair or just decorating in general. I notice you get more space out of these dressers too, which means you may be able to move your socks and undies into that instead of having a random set of drawers hanging out.

3. get rid of the shelves on top of the desk. If you must have shelves, add floating shelves or something that's more 'open'. I like the desk and the dresser where they are, but those two can easily be switched and still work nicely with what I've recommended.

4. get rid of any extra chairs or seating.. just leaves places for you to pile crap onto, like clothes or shopping bags.

I think the main thing here is your room is a bit bright and clean right now, which doesn't seem to be to your taste. put some color in it and if you do ANYTHING get rid of the tall dresser. They are room killers. lol. m
