Kids' Bath: Which is more important, 2 sinks or linen closet?
Comments (16)The 'window' is not a complete window, it is frame-less kind of like a tiled hole in the wall, it is open right now but there will be glass installed as soon as I make my shower door choice (at least that was the plan-turns out being at the end of the tub opposite the showerhead it seems that no water reaches the sill so I make just leave it this way) I will try to upload a picture tomorrow - I haven't taken completed bath pics yet because well... it's not completed yet - 95% of the way there. Just a few things like niche shelves need to be set (they are just resting in place), paint touch ups, grout touch ups, caulk etc, shower doors, drawer pulls ..... the list is forever but I am this' ' close to being done! For me a major requirement was two sinks - for the present to simplify washing up before dinner and tooth brushing times and for the future because I do not know what lies ahead with 3 boys shaving etc in the morning. Other thoughts.... I hate pocket doors but one idea I keep thinking to get my husband to try is to install a different handle - most pocket doors have a recessed handle so the door can slide all the way in, I want to put a handle similar to a long drawer pull so the kids have something more substantial to pull on - the door won't slide 100% in only until the handle but I think that might work better with little kids. My little ones are LOVING the deep tub, there are lots of opinions on tub depth, some feel the tall walls might be difficult for kids - for me it was one of my best choices (I think it's 21") my boys love to play in it and my daughter loves to soak the night away. Comments (10)Our closets, that are not accordion, will have ball catches. The cost was less for that than by-pass which surprised me. We will use dummies on all ball catch doors which all the closets are but one. I had to choose door type pretty early as the framing was different for bypass vs. ball catch. I tried to search dummy options online regarding French doors and couldn't get a consensus. I take that to mean as many people do one option vs. the other. Good luck!...See Morewhat's more important: coat closet, powder rm, or kitchen spc?
Comments (13)Here's a quick layout: Currently it's set up like a galley kitchen, with the fridge, cabs, sink, 30" stove and cabs L to R along the wall with the window, a cab opposite the fridge (adjacent to the coat closet) sporting a microwave, and a row of cabs next to the door along the wall to the living room. No good work triangle, I'm thinking of putting a pantry drawer and sandwich station/beverage station/appliance garage where the fridge is (to the left of the sink) and putting the fridge to the right of the doorway, opposite the sink. The original kitchen had the living room wall empty with a freestanding table for four in that area. As to how it will be used, well, there's just me, but I like to cook--I have a 30" stove and an additional 12" Miele combiset that I'll be dropping in a counter, probably next to the stove, unless I make a small bar/mother-in-law's kitchen in the basement. In a perfect world (one with a big budget) I'd knock the wall out between the kitchen and dining room, and open the wall between the kitchen and living room putting bar seating for two or three on the living room side--there's a nice stone fireplace in the living room, but not sure if the budget will allow--may change the pocket door to a double pocket door just to open it up a bit, at least... I'm also thinking of making it the way it used to be, with linoleum floor and everything (but modern neutral colors), true to it's origins as a ranch home from '56... I am open to any and all suggestions, referrals, etc... Oh, remodelfla--when you said you did a search, was that a forum search, or should I drop the print in the photo gallery? Thanks again, Paul...See MoreKeep depth on vanity/linen closets same or increase linen closet?
Comments (2)Hello, I think increasing the depth just a little bit to 24" would be a smart move. It will give you a little bit more space for storage (as we all know, everyone can always use more storage space), and it will visually balance out the space nicely. I would just make sure that you do have enough clearance to open the linen closet doors without hitting the tub or getting too tight!...See MoreShadyWillowFarm
